Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Saturday morning

Good morning! Here are 10 things you need to this morning:

1. Prominent Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Clark has called on the National leader of the PDP to sack former President, Olusegun Obasanjo from the party over anti-party activities. Clark gave the advice at his residence in Abuja on Friday, while at the same accusing the former President of working for APC at the expense of his party.

2. Report says the All Progressives Congress Secretariat located at Ngo community in Adoni LGA of Rivers State was bombed on Friday. The Secretariat, according to available report was bombed around 3.14am.

3. Prominent Northern group, the Arewa Consultative Forum ha said that the North will not change its decision of voting Jonathan out of power despite his last minutes’ visit to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. It doubted the sincerity of his visit, saying the trip would remind the residents of the neglect they had suffered under this present administration.

4. While speaking at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, during a two-day interdenominational prayer, the General Overseer, Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, said he does not trust politicians as majority of them are liars. He said they hardly fulfil their promises when voted into power.

5. Chibok community in Borno state said on Friday that President Goodluck Jonathan was not sincere in the search for their girls. While speaking through the Spokesperson for Kibaku community, Dr. Allen Mannaseh, the people expressed their sadness over Jonathan’s failure to return their daughters after several months. They said Jonathan exhibited his nonchalant attitude towards the rescue of the girls when he visited Maiduguri on Thursday but did not mention the girls.

6. It was a tragic scene on Wednesday at Onigbedu town in Ewekoro Local Government area of Ogun State when a 46-year-old farmer, Sunday Olubusayo, beheaded his wife, Oyewole and their three-year-old daughter, Esther, while at the same committing Suicide. The police spokesman in the state, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, said the Police was yet to find out what actually led to the tragedy.

7. Senate President, David Mark has said that despite the ongoing security challenges accross the country, the February election will hold as scheduled. Senator Mark gave the assurance when he received the United States of America, USA, Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle in Abuja on Friday.

8. The failure of the Nigerian Army to crush the Boko Haram insurgency was revealed globally on Thursday, as the Cable News Network (CNN) report showed clips of interviews with some soldiers who revealed they were ‘ill-equipped and not motivated in the ongoing fight against the Boko Haram terrorist group. The troops equally blamed corruption in the army for the failure of the army to fight Boko Haram.

9. Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has shocked many of his followers when he declared his support for Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State for a second term in office.He said his reason was because of Amusun’s performance as against party loyalty.

10. About N300 million worth of goods and property were on Friday razed in a fire outbreak in Onitsha, Anambra State. Report says the fire razed a two-storey building located at No. 9 Nweje Lane in Odoakpu area around 1.30 p.m.
