1. Nigerian Army on Friday announced that troops in the early hours of Friday cleared terrorists from Bara, the Headquarters of Gulani Local Government Area of Yobe State and Gulag, the Headquarters of Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State. Many of the terrorists were killed, while some were captured during the fierce battle that ensued.
2. The Ebonyi state governor, Martin Elechi has alleged that he was being haunted by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Chief Anyim Pius Anyim, Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus and National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Olisa Metu to vacate the state’s government house. He said the plot to impeach him was actually initiated by the aforementioned.
3. The Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation has accused former Lagos Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, of compelling the party’s vice presidential candidate, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, to take an oath that he will step down after six months in office, should the party emerge victorious at the poll.
4. Report says the Alafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi was in Abuja on Friday to seek the intervention of President Goodluck Jonathan over the ongoing murder allegation levelled against him. Report says he was accompanied by two of his close aides.
5. The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has said it will pull out of the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council, NIREC. CAN hinged its resolve to pull out on the biased treatment its leaders have been receiving from the co-chair of the Council, Sultan Abubakar Sa’ad.
6. The All Progressives Congress, APC has lambasted the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, over its misplaced comment on the outing of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari at Chatham House, saying that it would have been better for the party to remain quiet instead of disgracing itself in an attempt to condemn the outing that was globally accepted. The Publicity Secretary of the party, Lai Mohammad reacted in a statement.
7. In what appears like a direct contradiction of his earlier position, the AIG in charge of Zone 2, Lagos, Joseph Mbu has denied that he ordered that civilians be killed if a police officer is killed during the coming elections. He said he was quoted out of context. He said the report was targeted at denting his image as a disciplined officer.
8. Former Plateau State Governor, Joshua Dariye has been ordered by the Supreme Court on Friday. to present himself for trial on corruption and money laundering charges. He is to appear before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
9. Federal Airport of Nigeria, FAAN, will today test the Murtala Muhammed Airport Emergency Response Plan. This was contained in statement by the authority on Friday. It explained that the testing will be carried out with a Bomb Simulated Exercise between 10.00am and 11.00am.
10. The House of Representatives Friday peacefully settled their differences following Wednesday’s walkout staged by the All Progressives Congress (APC) members, as those who made disparaging comments also apologized.
