1. It has been confirmed by the Ondo State government that the strange disease currently ravaging Irele community in the state cannot be traced to any viral infection known to science. The State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko confirmed that the laboratory tests conducted does not reveal the cause of the death of the people, hence the people have commenced spiritual cleansing of the Malokun goddess that is reportedly angry with the community.
2. Commercial activities in Ado Ekiti were brought to a halt on Friday as organised labour took over the streets in protest of an alleged plot to impeach Governor Ayodele Fayose by some aggrieved All Progressives Congress lawmakers of the Ekiti State House of Assembly. The protesting labour unions included the Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress and Joint Negotiating Council.
3. The Supreme Court has ordered a member of the House of Representatives representing Akure South/North Federal Constituency of Ondo State, Ifedayo Abegunde, to give up his seat, having defected from the Labour Party, whose platform he won the election in 2011, to the now defunct Action Congress of Nigeria. The apex court gave the order after its ruling on Friday.
4. The Governor of Niger State, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, on Friday blamed the defeat of the Peoples Democratic Party in the just concluded national and state elections on the party’s refusal to respect the single term agreement, saying the party’s defeat was expected. The governor spoke in Minna as a special guest of honour at a convocation lecture of the Federal University of Technology, Minna.
5. The nanny, who abducted three Orekoya children in the Surulere area of Lagos State on April 7 has confessed that she was pushed into the act by her husband, Waheed Kareem as well as her brother in-law. According to the nanny, the family runs a kidnapping business. She confessed that her husband is the head of the gang. She also indicted her four children who were also part of the plan.
6. Discussion is currently ongoing between a former National Chairman, Prince Vincent Ogbulafor and the APC leadership on his (Ogbulafor) possible defection to the APC. Ogbulafor had a closed door meeting with the APC national chairman, Chief John Oyegun on Friday. The meeting lasted for about 45 minutes.
7. The Peoples Democratic Party on Friday declared that it will not be part of the rescheduled House of Assembly election in Orhionmwon II, which is expected to hold on April 18. The Party Chairman in the council, Nosakhare Ogieva-Okunbor, said the party took the decision following its understanding that the electoral body had already favoured the APC in the entire process.
8. Reacting to a statement by Chief Olisa Metuh, the PDP National Publicity Secretary of the PDP that the APC was planning to kill the PDP and ensure that Nigeria becomes a one-party state, Alhaji Lai Mohammed of the APC said that the All Progressives Congress has offered to send Mr. Olisa Metuh, on special six-week crash course on his new role as the opposition spokesman. Lai said Metuh needed to be trained properly as an opposition Spokesperson so he could stop telling lies.
9. The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has raised the alarm over the rising security breaches in the state. The party in its reaction to Friday morning blockade of entry points to Ado-Ekiti by the supporters of the governor, said that the governor ordered the blockade of the entry points to stop the 19 APC lawmakers from gaining entrance into the House of Assembly to carry out their legislative duties.
