Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Saturday morning

Good morning! Here are 10 things you need to know this morning:

1. 27 supplementary elections would be conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission in eleven states today. The elections include three governorship, one senatorial district, one federal constituency, and 22 state constituency supplementary elections.

2. President Goodluck Jonathan and the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), met behind closed-door on Friday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The meeting lasted for over 30 minutes. Details of what was discussed in the meeting was however not disclosed.

3. Former Nigerian President, Chief olusegun Obasanjo has disclosed that statements by most African leaders he had visited since the defeat of President Goodluck Jonathan in the last election show that most of them are happy over the outcome of the elections. He said some people saw President Jonathan as a moving ship heading for destruction.

4. A former Federal Commissioner for Information, Chief Edwin Clark and a close ally of President Jonathan has debunked media speculation that he collapsed after Gen. Buhari was declared winner of the just concluded presidential election. Denying that any of such thing happened, Clark said he would not die because Jonathan lost an election. He made the clarification while speaking with journalists on Friday in Abuja.

5. Kogi State Police Command had while briefing newsmen on the effort of the police in the state disclosed that it recovered some arms and ammunition from a secondary school, in Adavi Local Government area of the State. The Commissioner of Police in the state, Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi revealed that the guns and other weapons were hidden inside the ceiling of one of the classrooms of the secondary school.

6. For the first time since he arrived Abuja , Mr. Suleiman Hashimu, the man who trekked from Lagos to Abuja met with the President-Elect, General Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential campaign headquarters of the All Progressives Congress, on Friday. The President-Elect congratulated him on his successful journey.

7. Report says ten policemen trained in counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism in Belarus, are now being held by the military in Gwagwalada, Abuja for refusing to join the army to fight Boko Haram insurgents.

8. Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, has reacted to the story making the round that he was planning to stop his administration’s school feeding programme. Aregbesola said the programme had already attracted commendations, and would not be stopped.

9. Following speculation that he was planning to defect to the APC, Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State on Friday had a session with the President-Elect, General Muhammadu Buhari in his Aso Drive residence, Abuja.

10. The All Progressives Congress in Rivers State has alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission has denied it access to photocopies of result sheets for the 2015 general elections in the state. The APC has accused the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mrs. Gesila Khan of backing an alleged ongoing electoral frauds, including thumb-printing of ballot papers across the state.
