1. Reports say Senators and members of the House of Representatives of the incoming 8th National Assembly and ministers to be appointed by President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), will receive a total allowance of N9bn to enable them settle down and carry on with their national task. The allowance will include that of housing, furniture, vehicle loan and others.
2. It has been confirmed that troops of the Nigerian Army have recovered video recordings of crime against humanity committed by the Boko Haram insurgents. As they are now being dislodged from their base in Sambisa forest. The Director, Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Chris Olukolade confirmed the discovery, but refused to talk about the content of the video.
3. Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has said that with the resignation of British Labour Party leader, Ed Miliband, and that of Liberal Democrats, Nick Clegg, he has been vindicated for calling for the resignation of the Peoples Democratic Party National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu. This was contained in a statement he issued through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Mr. Lere Olayinka.
4. May 27, 2015 has been fixed by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos for the hearing of the fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by the senator-elect for Ogun East Senatorial District, Mr. Buruji Kashamu. The suit is seeking his protection against the alleged plot to extradite him to the United States.
5. The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has said the ongoing alliance between labour union leaders and Governor Ayodele Fayose to stop the impeachment proceedings against the governor won’t work, as they were bent on carrying out their constitutional duties.
6. At least, 14 persons were reportedly injured on Friday when a suicide bomber stormed the College of Administrative and Business Studies in Potiskum, Yobe State. The bomber who was armed with Improvised Explosive Devices detonated the explosive after his bullets got exhausted in the process of shooting.
7. Outgoing Senate President, David Mark, has advised the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, to embark on genuine reconciliation of all sections of the country upon assumption of office, saying that the nation desires reconciliation at all sections. Mark stated this on Friday at a thanksgiving Mass held to mark the end of the 7th Senate at St. Mulumba Catholic Chaplaincy, Apo in Abuja.
8. Nigeria’s Acting Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, on Friday warned that the force would deal with its officers involved in any form of corrupt behaviour as well as human right abuse. He gave the warning at the Enugu State Police Command headquarters, during the graduation ceremony of Batch one, Tactical Intelligence and Command Management Course at the Police Intelligence School, Enugu.
9. In sports, the Super Eagles of Nigeria have remained in the same 45th position, in the May FIFA world ranking. Algeria maintains its lead in Africa, ahead of Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Tunisia, Senegal, Cape Verde and Guinea.
10. The Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi has debunked allegation by the Governor-Elect, Nyesom Wike that he was frustrating the handover process in the state. Amaechi in a statement said he was ready for handover and will have no business in the Government House after May 29.
