Nigerian newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Saturday morning

Good morning! Here are 10 things you need to know this morning:

1. A former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke, was yesterday arrested alonside four other people by the UK National Crime Agency. Madueke who was later granted bail after several hours in detention will be charged to court for alleged offences relating to money laundering, bribery and corruption being investigated by the UK National Crime Agency.

2. Two Abuja satellite towns of Kuje and Nyanya were last night hit by multiple bomb explosions. While confirming the report, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said unconfirmed number of persons were killed while several property got destroyed in the explosions.

3. No fewer than 34 people have been reportedly killed in Sajeri and Gwoza areas in Maiduguri, Borno State between Thursday and Friday by the Boko Haram insurgents. Report claims that four female suicide bombers killed 13 people and injured 39 others in Sajeri while gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram members attacked Gwoza on Friday morning killing over 20 persons.

4. Reports have claimed that efforts are being made towards the revival of the nation’s national carrier. The report says a Federal Government committee with the mandate to work out modalities to restore the national airline has submitted its report to the Ministry of Aviation.

5. The Peoples Democratic Party in Bayelsa State has taken on the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in the state, Mr. Timipre Sylva, saying he was not electable. According to the PDP Secretary in the state, Keku Godspower, said in a statement on Friday, it was an insult to the people of Bayelsa State that Sylva was the best the APC could pick as its candidate.

6. An emerging report has it that the 64 Nigerians who were confirmed dead in the Mina stampede in Saudi Arabia, as well as the 71 injured and the 244 missing pilgrims were not insured. The report further claimed that many other Nigerians who traveled for the just concluded hajj were not insured.

7. The Nigerian Army on Friday said it will demolish any facility hosting members of the Boko Haram terror group. This was disclosed by the Theatre Commander of Operations, Lafiya Dole, Maj.-Gen. Yusha’u Abubakar, who said any facility used to perpetuate terrorism would be demolished immediately.
