Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Saturday morning

Good morning! Here are 10 things you need to know this morning:

1. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) said on Friday that workers in the country would resist any attempt by state governments to stop the payment of the current N18,000 national minimum wage. This was disclosed by the NLC President, Mr Ayuba Wabba at a mass rally in Abuja.

2. Libaria has again been hit by the dreaded Ebola virus. The country’s Health Minister, Bernice Dahn said on Friday that a new case of Ebola has resurfaced in the country and has now become a major setback to West African region that has been battling to overcome different cases of Ebola.

3. The apex lgbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohaneze Ndigbo, on Friday warned youths in the South-East and the South East to stop their agitation for Biafra. According to the group, any plan of secession will not work this time. Chairman, forum of state presidents of Ohaneze in the seven Igbo speaking states, Elder Chris Eluemunoh, advised that President Muhammadu Buhari be given the needed support to perform, saying Ohaneze will never back agitation of Biafra.

4. English newspaper, The Economist, in its review of the newly constituted cabinet of President Muhammadu Buhari, has said that the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, who bagged a degree in Economics from the University of East London and a Post Graduate degree in public financial management from the University of London, is poorly qualified to manage the nation’s economy.

5. Embattled Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku, has stated that he would defeat the APC candidate, Aisha Alhassan, if elections were conducted many times in the State. Ishaku made this statement after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari to discuss the security situation in his state.

6. The Adamawa State Police command has commenced investigation into the disappearance of a female lecturer with the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi. The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Othman Abubakar, disclosed this.

7. Former President, Goodluck Jonathan has denied awarding $2bn contract for arms procurement. He was speaking as a guest at a forum co-hosted by the National Democratic Institute and the Centre for Strategic and International Studies on Thursday in Washington, the United States.

8. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has invited a former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd) to appear before it to answer questions in connection with the ongoing probe into procurement of arms during the administration of former President, Goodluck Jonathan.

9. The missing body of a 24-year-old final year civil engineering student of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Imo State, Innocent Ndukwe, has been discovered near Owerri, the state capital. Report says Ndukwe, 24, was found in a toilet at his residence, 18 Enuwa Street, Egbu, Owerri North Local Government Area.

10. A family of four were Friday night burnt to death at the Gado-Nasko area of Kubwa, of the Federal Capital Territory. Report says the fire resulted from a burning stick of cigarette near some gallons of fuel in the said house.
