1. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) said they have started disbursing outstanding allowances and bonuses to the Super Falcons. This follows the Friday release of funds by the the Federal Government to pay players and officials of the female national team as well as the Super Eagles.
2. The Senate has said it may consider the confirmation of Ibrahim Magu as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), but only on the condition that President Muhammadu Buhari explains why they must confirm him.The Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Sabi Abdullahi, said it’s only explanation by Buhari, who nominated Magu that would determine if the nominee would be considered or not.
3. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has claimed it has unmasked the characters behind the alleged concocted audio believe to be that of the state governor, Nyesom Wike. This is according to a statement by the State Chairman of the PDP, Bro. Felix Obuah who claimed the major character behind the audio was Magnus Abe. The party alleged that Abe had boasted on a radio programme a day before the audio was posted, alerting the general public of the audio.
4. Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has stated that he is not under pressure as the INEC boss and not intimidated by President Muhammadu Buhari as many believe, saying that at this stage of his career, he cannot be intimidated by anyone. He was speaking at the opening of a two-day workshop organised by the commission for some journalists in Abuja.
5. Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has said that the “invasion” of the state by security agents during the December 10 legislative rerun, is only a sign of what may happen in 2019. Wike was speaking to journalists on Thursday night. He said if the rerun election could end the way it ended, the fighter jets may be used during the next general elections.
6. Report says a former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu, on Friday paid a visit to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, saying Kanu does not deserve to be in detention. Kalu posted a picture he took with Kanu during his visit to Kuje Prison in Abuja. He said it was now his major concern to ensure Kanu is released.
7. Report says the 21 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Borno witnessed had it tough on Friday as soldiers attached to the brigade to fight Boko Haram in the North East protested their unpaid allowances running into hundreds of thousands of naira. They also protested bad treatment by their commanders. According to the report, the soldiers were seen shooting in all directions, threatening to kill any officer who confronts them.
8. The National Judicial Council, NJC, has sacked Justices Ugbo Ononogbo of Abia State and Nasir Gunmi of Zamfara State High Court over their alleged involvement in judicial malpractice. It ordered the two Judges vacate their offices with immediate effect. The council under the Chairmanship of the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen, said it took the decision at the end of its 80th meeting which held between December 14 and 15, 2016.
9. President Muhammadu Buhari’s second daughter, Zahra, yesterday got married to an oil magnate, Ahmed Indimi. The wedding, which took place at the National Mosque in Abuja ended successfully With the groom’s family paying 12 gold coins valued at N250,000 as bride price to the Buhari’s family.
10 The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has blamed the police for failing to rescue a female lecturer, Christie Angbuku, who was abducted one month ago. The union has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to prevail on the police to ensure the release of the lecturer. The Secretary of the union, Ishaq Eneji spoke on behalf of the Chairman.
