Nigerian newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Saturday morning

Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. A former Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Power, Godknows Igali, is now in the radar of the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission that has alleged that he spent N1.5bn for the purchase of Sports Utility Vehicles which were used by the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation. Report says about 40 SUVs and other vehicles were recovered from the former permanent secretary.

2. President Muhammadu Buhari last night charged the Nigerian Army to ensure that the country remains an indivisible entity despite security threats. The President also received the captured flag of Boko Haram terrorists from the Sambisa Forest from the Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj. -Gen. Lucky Irabor of the Nigerian Army‎, urging the military to sustain the tempo.

3. The Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Vice President, Laolu Akande, has disclosed that Federal Government has commenced the payment of the N30, 000 monthly stipends for beneficiaries of the N-Power scheme. Speaking in Abuja on Friday, Laolu said that some of the beneficiaries would start receiving their stipends before the year is over.

4. The Defence Headquarters has said that Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, will soon meet his end, calling on his followers to stop following him blindly surrender to the troops. It has equally been disclosed that no fewer than 15 Boko Haram insurgents were killed by troops on Friday in a battle at Rann in Borno State. Five soldiers were reportedly injured in the battle.

5. The Department of State Security Service, DSS, said they have foiled plots by Boko Haram terrorists and kidnappers to attack various parts of the country during the Yuletide. The service said disclosed this in a statement signed by Tony Opuiyo.

6. President of Omega Fire Ministry, Apostle John Suleman has released 50 prophecies for 2017. Suleman in a statement issued by his Public Communications Advisor, Phrank Shaibu said some ‘forces’ in Aso Rock were planning to poison the current First Lady (Aisha Buhari). He also predicted that the same ‘forces’ will alienate Nigeria’s vice president, Yemi Osinbajo and they will make attempts to remove him from office.

7. Leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, on Friday alleged that the killing of Christians by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Southern Kaduna was orchestrated by El-Rufai and the federal government, calling on the people to defend themselves. Dokubo-Asari said this in a statement by his spokesperson, Rex Anighoro.

8. Ten persons, including an aged man, escaped death as fire razed down buildings as well as commercial shops in the early hours of Friday, in Warri area of Delta State. The incident, which occurred about 1a.m. on Friday and lasted till 3:20 a.m, at Ekurode Urhobo in Warri ,was attributed to an electric spark.

9. The Indigenous People of Biafra has stated that international observers would monitor the court session of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu. The group has enjoined its supporters and freedom fighters nationwide to be in court that day to witness the case. The case is expected to come up on January 10, 2017.

10. The United Action for Democracy, UAD, yesterday expressed displeasure over the state of the nation, claiming that the living condition of Nigerians has continued to degenerate. The Coalition of Civil Society movement noted that the rise in price of goods and services as well as the removal of all subsidies have made life unbearable difficult for Nigerians.
