1. Despite her status as the First Lady of Nigeria, Aisha, wife of President Muhamadu Buhari has claimed that she still feeds her children from her personal savings. She said that the State House, Abuja catered for her welfare only when it was necessary.
2. The Acting Director of Information, Office of the Chief of Defense Staff, Brig. Gen. Rabe Abubakar has declared that the army does not know the exact whereabouts of ex-militant leader, High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, otherwise known as Tompolo.
Brig. Gen. Abubakar said the military does not know if the Niger Delta warlord is dead or still alive.
3. West African leaders will today take a major decision on the political impasse in The Gambia, at a meeting in Ghana, President Muhammadu Buhari has said. According him, a major decision on the impasse is expected to be taken at that all-important meeting.
4. An Inspector and five sergeants attached to the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has been fired by the Nigerian Police Force.
The affected police personnel, ex-Inspct. Eyong Victor, ex-Sgts. Peter Ekpo, Oguni Goodluck, Orji Nwoke, Okpe Ezekiel and Tanko Akor were undressed by the force over alleged misuse of fire arms during the just concluded legislative rerun in the state.
5. Super Eagles captian, John Obi Mikel has opened up on the real reason he pitched his tent with Tianjin TEDA FC of China.
The 29-year-old is set to seal a free transfer from Chelsea to the Chinese Super League club after 10 years and 374 appearances for the Blues in an emotion-laden letter, said he was happy to have played for the English giants for over a decade.
6. Justice Muslim Hassan of the Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the temporary forfeiture of the sum of $153,310,000, which former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueze, allegedly stole from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and stored in three banks in the country.
Hassan in his verdict on Friday also gave Sterling Bank and any other interested party 14 days to appear before him to prove the legitimacy of the monies, failing which the funds would be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government.
7. The Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, has explained what broke the Carmel’s back between him and former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The monarch said he fell out with Obasanjo, a fromer military general when the latter failed to address the issue of true federalism in the country as president, saying that Obasanjo had promised to address the issue of true federalism before the 1999 elections, but on getting to office, he did otherwise.
8. Catholic ArchBishop of Abuja Diocese, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, has flayed the one-day national prayer directed by the Christian Association of Nigeria in honour of victims of the massacre in Southern Kaduna, saying Catholics do not take orders and instructions from CAN.
He frowned at the rationale behind such orders by CAN and how they arrived at the decision, saying that it was not the best way forward.
9. Suspected gun, Friday shot and beheaded a 36-year old applicant, Mr. Gabriel Sibe, an indigene of Isaba, an Ijaw community in Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State. One person was injured and one missing in the shootout between the invaders, suspected to be from a neigbouring Urhobo community and youths of Isaba.
10. The National Vice-Chairman (North West) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Inuwa Abdul-Kadir, has accused Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State and former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, of planning to assault him over party matters in their respective states.
Abdul-Kadir also claimed El-Rufai had threatened to beat him up and prevent him from entering Kaduna, in the presence of other Governors from the geographical zone.
