1. The Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Thursday affirmed Sen Ali Modu Sheriff, as the ‘authentic’ National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The three-man panel of judges in a unanimous decision maintained that the former Borno State Governor is the authentic National Chairman of the party.

2. Senator Dino Melaye has accused civil servants of being responsible for major corruption in the country.

According to Melaye, many civil servants had refused to repent and internalize the change mantra within their hearts, adding that the change was not about the APC as a political party but about the way Nigerians conducted themselves and operated government agencies and activities.

3. A Former aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Koyde has affirmed that it was high time he left the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for embattled factional National Chairman of the Party, Sen Ali Modu Sheriff.

The former Presidential campaign spokesperson in a series of tweet on his twitter handle, while reacting to the Appeal court’s judgment, which confirmed Sheriff as the authentic PDP chairman said, “The C of A decision is absurd. It is time for us to gut the PDP, leave its carcass for the treacherous mole called Sheriff and form a new party.”

4. Some clerics under the aegis of Northern Inter-Faith and Religious Organisations for Peace have faulted those playing politics with the health of President Muhammadu Buhari, saying that the president was human and can fall ill.

Leader of the group, Musa Fomson, who spoke in Jos on Thursday, called on those politicising Buhari’s health to desist from the act, stressing that the President’s health status should not cause panic in the country.

5. Renowned economic expert, Mr. Henry Boyo, has predicted that Nigerian currency, naira will hit 1000/dollar on the parallel market in 2017 if the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, fails to review its monetary policy framework immediately.

The expert, who gave the warning as the nation’s currency crumbled to N516 to the greenback on Thursday, further lamented that the current monetary policy framework adopted by the CBN was skewed against the naira.

6. Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has called on members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) not to panic over the ruling of the Court of Appeal, Port Harcourt, on the lingering party’s leadership tussle, which declared Ali Modu Sheriff as its authentic chairman.

Ekweremadu, who said there was no cause for alarm, insisted that the party was doing everything possible to bounce back in no distant time.

7. Indications emerged Friday night that the Nigeria Governors’ Forum may send some governors to the United Kingdom to visit President Muhammadu Buhari, except the President returns home between now and next week.

According to report, the plan to send a delegation to the President was part of the discussion at the last governors’ meeting in Abuja, which ended in the early hours of Thursday.

8. No fewer than three people were confirmed dead while 23 others sustained injuries after a luxury bus, belonging to GUO Transport Company, with registration number Anambra GDD 386 YE plunged into a lagoon at Owode Elede in the Mile 12 area of Lagos State.

Spokesperson for the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), Adebayo Kehinde who confirmed this, said the ill-fated bus was returning to Lagos from Abia State when the incident occurred at about 3:23 am.

9. The lawmaker representing Agatu state constituency in the Benue State House of Assembly, Alhaji Sule Audu has on behalf of the people of the area, apologised to the Nigerian army over the alleged recent murder of a soldier by some youths of the area.

He promised that the people would continue to cooperate with the military and advised against any act or unsubstantiated comments that could aggravate the situation in the area.

10. State House Permanent Secretary, Mr. Jalal Arabi has explained that the budget has been reduced from N16.6billion in 2016 to N13.6 billion in 2017 due to economic recession.

While defending the State House 2017 budget proposal before the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Intergovernmental Affairs in Abuja, Arabi explained that the management of State House would strategically prioritise its demands within available resources.
