1. A toxicology test carried out by the Nigerian Police has ruled out the possibility of poisoning in the death of late Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke. This was made known following the testimony by SP Moses Eleta who testified for the second time at the inquest Friday morning.
2. Four persons have been confirmed killed in Bonny LGA of Rivers State after some yet-to-be identified gunmen invaded two adjourning communities; Otobie and Ererekiri on Thursday. Those killed include Kobiri Godspower (M) 25yrs , Elder Macauley Oweibo Manilla Pepple (M) 76yrs, Emelia God’spower (F) 15yrs, and Adolphus Hitler Pepple (M) while others sustained various degree of injuries.
3. A 38-year-old commercial bus driver, Kester Edun, who was handcuffed by some policemen to a patrol van in the Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State has recounted his ordeal, stating that he was innocent of the allegations levelled against him by the officers. He said the officers refused to go after a suspect who fled his commercial bus, and chained him to the bus.
4. Prospective candidates for the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination in Kaduna, Friday protested their inability to write examination in the various centers earmarked for the exams. The candidates marched to the JAMB office expressing dismay over the manner the registration was conducted. The candidates also blocked JAMB’s office located along Tafawa Balewa Way.
5. Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo, has reacted angrily to an image of the late Moji Olaita on her deathbed on social media and claims her colleague was betrayed. Writing on her Instagram page, she noted that even at death, a trusted friend betrayed the late Moji by posting such an image.
6. The South African government on Friday deported 90 Nigerians for committing immigration-related offences. DSP Joseph Alabi, the spokesman of the Lagos Airport Police Command confirmed the development, saying the deportees, who are all men, landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos at about 3.30pm.
7. A similar report says no fewer than 10,000 Nigerians have died between January and May 2017 while trying to illegally migrate through the Mediterranean Sea and the deserts.NIS Assistant Comptroller-General, in charge of training, manpower and development, Mr. Maroof Giwa, said that 4,900 Nigerians died in the Mediterranean Sea while the rest died while going through the deserts in their bid to cross to Europe.
8. The All Progressives Congress, National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, has said that Nigerians will defend their democracy, should there be an attempt to topple the current government. He was reacting to a statement by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai’s that some individuals were approaching some Army officers and soldiers for undisclosed political reasons.
9. Some Biafran women, Friday went topless on the streets of Abia to protest an alleged intimidation and molestation from the Nigerian soldiers. The women who matched to the king’s palace, (Igwe’s palace) alleged being manhandled by soldiers who obstructed their gathering in Abiriba.
10. Nigeria’s Miss Anne-Marie Osawemwemze Imafidon has been decorated by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, with the prestigious honour of Member of the Most Excellent British Empire (MBE) for her services to young women with specialty in Sciences, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
