1. No fewer than 25 people were on Friday killed in a fatal accident that occurred in Kogi State . The accident involved a tanker conveying fuel and an eighteen seater bus coming from the North. Report says both vehicles got burnt to ashes, including other 10 vehicles parked by the roadside. The accident which occurred between Fefele-Okene Abuja Road at about 1:30pm saw residents of the area scampering for safety.
2. Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ahmed Makarfi, was involved in an auto-crash along Abuja-Kaduna highway on Friday. This was disclosed by spokesperson of the party, Dayo Adeyeye. According to Adeyeye, the vehicle conveying Makarfi to Kaduna was involved in a head-on collision with other vehicles on the highway, but the Chairman and others in his company came out unhurt.
3. After sixty-five days in the den of their abductors, the Ondo state government on Friday, secured the release of the six abducted students of Lagos Model College, Igbonla, Epe area of Lagos state. The students have identified as Agbaosi Judah, Jonah Peter, Philips Pelumi, Adebanjo George , Yusuf Faruq and Ramon Isiaka were released at exactly 1am to the Deputy Governor of Ondo state, Hon. Agboola Ajayi, who led the government delegation that secured their release.
4. The contractor handling the reconstruction and expansion works on the Lagos-Ibadan dual carriageway, Section II, along Shagamu-Ibadan, has suspended further execution of the project following an outstanding debt of N8.94bn. This was made known in a letter addressed to the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, and dated June 2, 2017 by the contractor.
5. Kidnapped University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) staff abducted by Boko Haram have appealed to the Federal Government to meet the demands of Boko Haram so they can regain their freedom. The video showed the faces of two lecturers in the Geology Department of the University, Yusuf Ibrahim and Dr Solomon N. Yusuf, and the third man, Haruna, who is a driver.
6. Acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes commission, Ibrahim Magu has accused Nigerian banks of encouraging looting in the country. Magu blamed banks in the country for creating a friendly atmosphere for looters to steal money, noting that they were doing everything possible to make sure that the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit, NFIU, was removed from the agency.
7. The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, has said the Federal Government has no plan to close the University of Maiduguri, UNIMAID, despite continuous attacks by insurgents. Adamu made the remarks during a visit to the university on Friday. The minister said the government does not want academic activities at the institution to be interrupted. 8. Ex-Niger Delta militant leader, Asari Dokubo has reacted to the alleged $90 billion fraud charge brought against former Petroleum Minister, Dieziani Alison-Madueke. Dokubo described President Muhammadu Buhari and members of his cabinet as liars, saying if Alison-Madueke actually looted $90 billion at the current exchange rate and has returned it back to the nation’s coffers, there was no need for the federal government to be seeking external borrowings to finance infrastructure development across the nation.
9. Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Ita Enang, has said that the 2018 Budget proposal will be presented to the National Assembly by October. He disclosed this while briefing newsmen on Friday in Abuja. According to Enang, the 2018 budget is one of the matters that was agreed between the Legislature and the Executive, at the assent session by the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo.
10. The Naira on Friday maintained its grip against the dollar in the parallel market as it exchanged at N365 to a dollar. Pound Sterling and the Euro closed at N474 and N424, respectively.
