Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), has announced the discovery of hydrocarbon (oil and gas) deposits in the Kolmani River II Well on the Upper Benue Trough, Gongola Basin, in the North-Eastern part of the country.

NNPC made this disclosure in a statement signed by its Acting Spokesman, Samson Makoji, in Abuja on Friday

2. The 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory earned the sum of N691.11bn as Internally Generated Revenue within a six-month period, covering January to June this year. The figure was contained in the second quarter IGR report released on Friday by the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS.

3. The Community Court of Justice ECOWAS has ordered the Federal Government to investigate and prosecute perpetrators of the January 2018 mass killings and destruction in some communities in Benue State. The court held that the Nigerian government breached its obligation to investigate the human rights violations that occurred.

4. President Muhammadu Buhari has barred all Ministers and heads of federal agencies from travelling abroad, pending their defence of the 2020 budget before the National Assembly.

The Director Information, Office of Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Willie Bassey, said the order was with immediate effect.

5. The Presidency has dispelled the rumour that President Muhammadu Buhari was about to take second wife.

It described the story as false, stressing that it was a deceptive manoeuvre by those who fabricated it, adding that no such marriage would take place at the Presidential Villa.

6. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) have signed a $2.5 billion pre-payment agreement on upstream gas development projects to supply gas to NLNG’s trains 1-6.

7. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has charged the National Assembly to ensure that all the details of the 2020 budget proposal were submitted to it and thoroughly checked before legislative approval is given. The party said that the 2020 Budget presented by President Muhammadu Buhari was empty and was sent without the budget estimates.

8. The Trade Union Congress has said that those on the government negotiating team were too slow with the level of their consultation on the new minimum wage. It said for its ultimatum that will expire on October 16, 2019, instead of the government team concentrating on how to resolve the issues, they were asking for extension of the ultimatum, which is not going to be possible.

9. The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Tanko Muhammad has asked to the Senate for adequate funding to meet judicial functions. The CJN said that the Supreme Court of Nigeria as one of the busiest apex court in the world needed more funding to perform optimally.

10. Elder statesman, Chief Mike Ahamba, has warned that if Nigeria must break up, it should do so peacefully. He said that restructuring the country was the only guarantee to its survival, calling for the adoption of confederation, as well as a return to the Aburi Accord.
