1. Former Vice President, Alex Ekwueme, was on Sunday flown abroad for medical treatment.
The ailing Second Republic Vice President was brought to the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu at about 7:26am on Sunday in a National Orthopedic Hospital Enugu, SUV ambulance.
2. The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has rejected the idea of a secret probe by the Senate of wanted ex-Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina.
Malami, who is being accused by the Head of Service and the Federal Civil Service Commission of having initiated series of memoranda to effect the recall of the wanted former pension task force chairman, is billed to appear before the Senate tomorrow to explain his role on the controversial reinstatement, which has angered Presidential Muhammadu Buhari.
3. The Senate has given some reasons it will not lift the six months suspension handed to Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South Senatorial District.
The upper legislative chamber, through its lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, said it disagreed with the verdict of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which not only voided Ndume’s suspension from the Senate since March 30, but also directed that he should be paid all his outstanding salaries and allowances.
4. The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB has described as wild, the claims that it intended to disrupt the Anambra governorship election on Saturday.
The group said it was not true that it planned to disrupt the election, saying that its only plan was to boycott the election because it will not be anything different from others that have been conducted in Nigeria.
5. Goodluck Jonathan, former Nigerian President, has disclosed that he was under pressure to contest in the 2019 election.
The former President said he is moved to tears, each time he sees people shouting, “GEJ, we want you back.”
Ruling out the possibility of returning to office, Jonathan said such will make him to reflect on his achievements and mistakes while in office.
6. The Benue State government has described as false and mischievous the report that a 56-year-Fulani herdsman, Mohammed Abdulkadire, reportedly jumped into River Benue in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State over his missing cows.
The state said it was a propaganda aimed at getting public sympathy by the herders.
7. The first civilian governor of Anambra State, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife, has said that Anambra people will resist any attempt to rig in a candidate to rule over the people of the state in Saturday’s governorship election.
Ezeife, who spoke on behalf of Anambra Elders’ Forum comprising of prominent sons of the state in a press conference in Awka, said there have been allegations of some political parties planning to rig the election, but those who allow themselves to be rigged in would not be allowed to govern the people of the state.
8. Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, on Sunday gave more reasons why Nigerians must not vote the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, back into power in 2019.
Mohammed said the current President Muhammadu Buhari-led “administration is cleaning up the Augean Stable of the PDP years.”
9. The Chairman, National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has said national chairmanship aspirants with pending cases in court would not be disqualified from the race at the party’s convention in December.
Makarfi said, ‘f you play that game (disqualification of candidates based on pending EFCC case), that will be playing into the hands of the government in such a way that every one of us can be charged to court so that PDP will have no candidate.’
10. Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai says he does not regret his controversial decision to sack 22,000 teachers who failed competency test and recruit 25,000 new ones.
He said despite the threat of industrial action by the state chapter of the NUT, the government will not be deterred.
