Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Monday morning

1. The former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has formally returned to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Atiku in a live broadcast on his official Facebook account, explained that the APC no longer aligns to principles of equity, democracy and social justice upon which it was founded.

2. The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has hinted that he will seek the 2019 Presidential ticket of the party.

He further said that Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose’s declaration of interest in the party’s presidential ticket, “is uncalled for and unhealthy.”

3. Former military head of state, Ibrahim Babangida, IBB, has spoken ahead of the Saturday 9th December 2017 convention of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).

IBB said as founding father and stakeholder, there is the pressure to collectively assure Nigerians that the party has learnt bitter lessons.

4. The Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) has won all the 31 local government councils in the Saturday’s elections in Akwa Ibom State.

The Party also won the 329 councillorship seats in the state.

5. The All Progressives Congress, APC, has said it would solve its problems without the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.

The National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi wondered if the reason Atiku gave before leaving the PDP in the first place had been solved to warrant his return to the party.

6. Former President Goodluck Jonathan, has expressed optimism that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, will become solid after its Saturday national convention.

Jonathan also expressed the hope that by Saturday, PDP would elect its new set of national officials.

7. For boasting that his legacies still remained unparalleled after exiting office two years ago, former President Goodluck Jonathan has come under attack of the national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Oyegun.

Oyegun said Jonathan had thrown dignity and decorum to the winds and took to infantility, factors which in his estimation, gave low reckoning to his status as a former President and the office he occupied.

8. Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, has said a united Nigeria where every citizen can actualise his or her potential in any part of the country irrespective of his or her ethnic or religious background is possible.

Ekweremadu sad he believes the citizens can live happily together in Nigeria and everybody will have the blessings of democracy and all the economic gifts, which God has bestowed on this country.

9. The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), has said the government is gradually, but sustainably, addressing power sector problems to achieve uninterrupted supply.

According to Fashola, the government is resolving tariff issues, generation, transmission and distribution challenges, milestones achieved and consumers’ responsibilities in making the sector work.

10. The leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has said that despite being granted bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja where he is being prosecuted alongside others on charges of treasonable felony, he is still entitled to the $800m compensation for his alleged unlawful arrest and detention in 2015.

This is contained in his response to the motion filed by the Federal Government asking the Community Court of the Economic Community of West African States sitting in Abuja to dismiss a fundamental human rights enforcement suit filed by the IPOB leader.
