1. President Muhammadu Buhari has assured that Nigerians will experience the real change in the year 2018. Buhari, who gave this assurance during a nationwide broadcast to welcome Nigerians into the New Year, assured that the year 2018 promises to be pivotal in the nation’s quest for change.
2. Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Bishop David Oyedepo of Winners Chapel, Pastor Daniel Olukoya of Mountain of Fire, Primate Nicholas Okoh of Anglican Communion and other prominent Nigerian clerics have released prophecies for the year 2018. While some said the year 2018 would mark the end of rebellious kings and rulers, others predicted that Nigeria’s situation would go from bad to worse.
3. Former President, Goodluck Jonathan has revealed what Nigerians need to do to make 2018 a better year than 2017.
Jonathan in his New Year message advised Nigerians to speak positively concerning Nigeria, embrace love amongst one another in order to make 2018 a greater year than 2017.
4. President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, blamed the current fuel scarcity ravaging the nation on blackmailers, who, according to him, “instead of showing love, companionship and charity… chose this period to inflict severe hardship on us all by creating unnecessary fuel scarcity across the country.
He said those behind the fuel scarcity during the Christmas festival that made many Nigerians to be stranded will be fished out and punished adequately.
5. Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, has assured Nigerians of a brighter 2018 as efforts are in top gear by the Federal Government to stem job losses, and create new ones. Ngige
The Minister in a New Year message, urged Nigerians not to tremble over the recent statistics on job losses released by the National Bureau of Statistics, NBC as the development is effectively modulated by a similar release by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, which indicates over a seven million job growth in the Agricultural sector.
6. The Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has finally explained why he sacked over 22,000 teachers in the state. According to him, the affected persons were dismissed from their jobs because they were unqualified.
7. Five persons have been confirmed dead and others injured in an auto crash along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
The accident occurred as a commercial bus lost control and collided into a parked trailer at about 9am.
8. President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed to deal with persons who he said are responsible for the current fuel scarcity.
Speaking in his New Year message to Nigerians, Mr. Buhari said he was “saddened” by the ongoing fuel scarcity in the country.
9. A middle aged-man identified as Edward has been allegedly killed by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Garkem, Bekwara local government area of Cross River State.
The killing occurred when the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Prof. Anthony Eneji allegedly brought some SARS operatives in a van to arrest some revenue collectors who were said to have opposed his taking over of the revenue collection point in the area.
10. A member of the Taraba State House of Assembly representing Takum I Constituency, Hon. Hosea Ibi, was during the weekend kidnapped.
The Commissioner of Police, Taraba State, Mr. Dave Akinremi, confirmed that the lawmaker was abducted by motorcyclists in Takum, Jalingo last night while going to his home town.
