Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Monday morning

1. Suspected Fulani Herdsmen have reportedly set ablaze a farm belonging to the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Chief Olu Falae.

The elder statesman, while lamenting the incident said, “they have again burnt my farm, the Fulani herdsmen. They do that every year. As I speak to you the Akure area commander, my P.A and farm manager have visited the place”.

2. Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has told Serikin Fulani in the state, Muhammed Abashe, that he will be held responsible for any further attack in the state.

The governor, who was furious about the recent killing of a Tiv woman in Orin Ekiti by people suspected to be Fulani herders, said Abashe had failed in providing leadership by not stopping his kinsmen from destroying farms and attacking residents under slightest provocation.

3. Primate Elijah Ayodele, founder and Spiritual leader of INRI Evangelical and Spiritual Church, Oke Afa, Isolo, Lagos, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has insisted that President Muhammadu Buhari will win in 2019, if the All Progressives Congress, APC, fields him during the election.

In his 220-page book, entitled, ‘Warnings to the Nations (WTN), 2017/2018 edition in Lagos, the cleric stated that Buhari’s chances at the polls were bright but warned the president to beware.

4. The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the Fresh PDP, has said that the report of its collapsing and reuniting with the main opposition was circulated by individuals masquerading themselves as spokespersons of the party.

The Director-General of the Fresh PDP, Prince Obi-Nwosu Emmanuel, debunked claims by some individuals that the faction had collapsed.

5. Gali Umar Na’Abba, a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Board of Trustees, BoT, and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, has said President Muhammadu Buhari has not added any value to Nigeria’s democracy since he became president.

Na’Abba alleged that Buhari was running a “man-man” government, adding that he does not consult party members before taking decisions because he “considers them to be evil”.

6. A medical doctor, Idowu Ahmed Victor diagnosed of Lassa Fever in Irua Edo State has passed on.

Late Victor was a House Officer at the Federal Medical Centre Lokoja where he contacted the disease from a seven-month-old baby.

7. The Jama’atu Nasril Islam, JNI, has lambasted the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) over comments by its secretary, Musa Asake.

JNI also lambasted Christian leaders such as David Oyedepo, Ayo Oritsejafor and Apostle Suleman, accusing them of fanning the embers of discord among Nigerians.

8. Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, says President Muhammadu Buhari is in a better state of health to seek re-election in 2019.

Adesina told State House correspondents in Abuja on Sunday that though the president was yet to decide on whether to re-contest or not, his health would never be an issue as he had been improving tremendously since his return from medical vacation.

9. Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, yesterday, warned that the nation would continue to experience intermittent fuel scarcity, in as much as government has abandoned local refineries for importation of petroleum products.

10. An advocacy group, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, says the court has upheld its right to take steps to stop former governors, who are now ministers and senators, from further collecting emolument and life pension from their states.

SERAP said, in a statement on Sunday, that its right to proceed against the concerned former governors was upheld by the Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday.
