Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers;
1. The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has said his recent meeting with the Department of State Services, DSS, was a mere routine conversation that held in the interest of national security.
Oshiomhole said he wasn’t hired by the DSS and cannot be requested by the DSS to resign or to retain the job as widely reported in the media.
2. President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday in Paris, France, called for stringent actions against perpetrators of illicit financial flows, including crackdown on safe havens, warning that continuous impunity will encourage more pilfering of countries’ resources to the detriment of poor and vulnerable populace.
Speaking at the first edition of the Paris Peace Forum, held on the sidelines of the Centenary of Armistice Day, President Buhari said Nigeria had strengthened its laws and institutions to fight corruption, fast-track recovery of stolen assets and punish offenders, urging more commitment from governments and international institutions.
3. The name of Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, was not in the list of governorship candidates from the state displayed by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Sunday.
Governor Tambuwal was one of the aspirants who contested for the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, at the party’s elective National convention.
4. The Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, has revealed why a search was carried out on the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar.
The Minister said that even though Atiku’s travel bag was searched, the former Vice President was accorded his respect.
5. No fewer than 1000 members of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have dumped their parties for the Zenith Labour Party, ZLP in Akoko Northwest and Northeast council areas of Ondo state.
The defectors from the two council areas in Akoko were led by SDP Chieftains, including Ayo Oluwafemi and Abiola Ogunmodede and received by former Deputy Governor, Alhaji Lasisi Oluboyo and former Chief Judge of Ondo state, Justice Olasehinde Kumuyi.
6. Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State has pledged to immediately relocate Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state back to their ancestral home before the end of 2018.
He equally said his administration is desirous and committed towards ensuring that peace is achieved permanently in the state, saying he stands for all tribes in Plateau.
7. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed that the process for the extradition of former minister of Petroleum, Mrs Deziani Alison-Madueke, from the United Kingdom has begun.
Acting spokesman of the commission, Mr Tony Orilade, said EFCC’s Operations Department has made presentation to the Legal Department to commence the process, and that process has commenced
8. The Nigeria Army on Sunday said its troops have killed two Boko Haram commanders and reclaimed some communities in Borno State.
The army identified the Boko Haram commanders as: Abu Rajal and Tuja Sa’inna Banki.
9. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has expressed dissatisfaction over the relocation of Osun election petition tribunal to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja from Osogbo, the Osun state capital, calling on the National Judicial Council to probe the sudden relocation.
The party alleged that there was a clandestine plan by some “powerful and desperate forces to manipulate the proceedings and outcome of the tribunal, hence the need for the sudden relocation.”
10. No fewer than 850 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) on Sunday defected to the All Progressives Party (APC) in Zaria LGA Kaduna State.
The defectors included the PRP Youth Leader in Zaria, Mr Ibrahim Hassan-Pako, and a prominent PDP member, Hajiya Sa’adiya Mohammed-Mai-Yanga.
