Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Monday morning

1. The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Muhammed Adamu has reportedly retired all the Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs).

The affected officers include DIG in charge of Finance and Administration, Maigari Dikko; DIG in charge of operations, Habila Joshak; DIG Information and Communications Technology, Emmanuel Inyang; and DIG in charge of Logistics and Supply, Agboola Oshodi-Glover, the Nation reports.

2. The National Judicial Council (NJC) has summoned an emergency meeting, over the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen.

Neither Onnoghen nor Tanko Ibrahim Muhammad, the acting CJN, will be allowed to preside over the meeting, which will be held in Abuja by 10am on Monday.

3. Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has asked Justice Walter Onnoghen to quit the bench, following the allegations levelled against him at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

He stated that after the suspension has been lifted, Onnoghen should quit the bench, because he has already admitted that he failed in his duty to declare his asset as required by the constitution.

4. The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has said that the union had not received the sum of N163 billion from the Federal Government.

The asked the government to concentrate on finding a quick resolution to the impasse rather than dissipate energy on fake news and cheap propaganda aimed at tarnishing the image of the union.

5. Gunmen during the weekend stormed a sports viewing centre in Birnin Magaji town of Birnin Magaji Local Government Area of Zamfara State and kidnapped seven of the viewers.

The proprietor of the viewing centre, Sanusi Iliyasu Ishie, told reporters that the bandits numbering about 20 stormed the viewing centre Saturday night.

6. The Acting Inspector- General of Police ( I-G), Mr Mohammed Adamu has placed with immediate effect, embargo on the issuance of new licences for designated arms throughout the country.

ACP Frank Mba, the spokesman of the force, who did not list the categories of the arms, called on Nigerians in unlawful possession of such weapons to return them to Police Stations or Public Armoury nearest to them.

7. A total of N649.198 billion has been distributed as Federal Allocation for the month of December 2018, between the Federal Government, State Governments and Local Government Councils.

Oise D. Johnson, Head Press & Public Relations, Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), noted that the communiqué issued by the Technical sub-Committee of Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) indicated that the Gross statutory revenue received is N547.462 billion which is lower than the N649.629 billion received in the previous month by N102.167 billion..

8. The Nigerian Airforce (NAF) has deployed air women and female air officers for military operations in the North-East.

Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Sadique Abubakar explained that are actively involved in the on-going counter-insurgency operation with special forces against Boko Haram terrorists and other criminal elements.

9. The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has alleged fresh plot to takeover the National Assembly ahead of Tuesday emergency session.

Imo Ugochinyere, CUPP spokesman, in a statement on Sunday, said the All Progressives Congress (APC) government was of the firm belief that Tuesday is their best and last chance to effect the changes.

10. Alhaji Saleh Bayari, the leader of coalition of Fulani herdsmen groups in Nigeria, has appealed to the Federal Government to grant unconditional amnesty to their members detained over various allegations in the country.

He said the federal government should consider amnesty to Fulani people accused of crimes, as it was done to agitators in the oil rich Niger Delta region.
