Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Monday morning

Good morning! Here are 10 things you need to know this morning:

1. President-Elect Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday said he will investigate the missing $20bn oil money which led to the sack of a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and now the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II. Buhari, while receiving a delegation of the All Progressives Congress elected officials and supporters from Adamawa State at his campaign office in Abuja faulted Jonathan’s government for sacking Sanusi instead of investigating the alleged missing fund.

2. The All Progressives Congress, in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Lai Muhammadu said it will probe some last-minutes alleged dubious activities of President Goodluck Jonathan’s government as soon as it takes over on May 29. The party alleged that the present government had taken looting and misappropriation to another level knowing that it was leaving office.

3. No fewer than 32 persons were killed between Saturday and Sunday when a number of Fulani herdsmen invaded Guma and Kwande in Buruku and Keana local government areas of Benue and Nasarawa states. Report says majority of those killed in the coordinated attacks were women and children.

4. Candidates of different political parties in the Saturday’s rerun elections in Taraba, Imo and Abia states have rejected the outcome of the elections, alleging that they were characterized by rigging. The candidates include; Aisha Alhassan(APC), Emeka Ihedioha(PDP) and Alex Otti(APGA) respectively.

5. The Justice and Development Consultative Forum, JDCF, argued yesterday, that it would be very wrong not to give the North-east geopolitical zone the position of the Senate president, as despite security challenges, the region ended up producing the second largest number of votes for the All Progressives Congress ,APC in the last election. The forum’s position was made known via a statement by its leader, Mr. Elisha Ishaku.

6. Grants totalling N1.2bn from both the European Union and the Government of Japan to tackle insurgency in the North-East and to also improve the level of disaster management in the country has been received by the Federal government.

7. At least, seven persons were yesterday killed in Kano when a pedestrian bridge still under construction at Dorayi quarters, Kano, caved in o a vehicle passing under it. The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Magaji Majiya, confirmed the incident, saying the accident occurred around 4.45pm. 8. The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has asked the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, to warn against the actions of the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mrs. Gesilla Khan who has refused to allow the party’s agents to have access to election materials, which were to be presented before the tribunal. The party has equally appealed to Jega to immediately move all sensitive materials used for the elections away from Rivers.

9. The Akwa Ibom State government has asked its citizens to desist from eating cow skins, otherwise known as pomo. According to the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr. Godwin Afangideh, cow skin has being responsible for the rising cases of cancer and liver problems in the state.

10. Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano has donated his salaries to the less privileged in the state. Governor Obiano disclosed this at Awka, saying that a written instruction has been sent to his Principal Secretary, Mr. Willie Nwokoye to ensure his salary gets to the needy.
