Good morning! Here are 10 things you need to know this morning:
1. Report says a new Deji of Akure has now emerged, in the person of Kole Aladetoyinbo. This follows a unanimous decision by Akure Kingmakers.
2. President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday arrived in Munich, capital of Germany. He touched down at about 3:25pm and was received on arrival by the Vice Minister-President of Bavaria, Mrs. Inge Aigner. The president who is supposed to present his shopping list to the G7 leaders has as top priorities, the issues of security and anti-corruption.
3. Another bomb explosion reportedly killed 10 persons in Maiduguri cattle market on Saturday. Report says the explosion however went unnoticed as many residents thought the sound was produced by thunderstorm since it was raining heavily as at then.
4. Some Senators-elect supporting the candidacy of Senator Bukola Saraki as President of the 8th Senate, on Sunday, declared that Saraki will contest the position on the floor of the Senate today despite the emergence of Sen. Ahmed Lawan as APC sole candidate, arguing that the shadow election by the APC was manipulated by some APC leaders.
5. The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has urged the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, to caution the Lagos State chapter of his party, APC, to stop interfering in the selection of the speaker of the State Assembly scheduled for today. They are accusing the APC of lobbying for an unpopular candidate.
6. The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has advised the State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, to sell the helicopter he purchased for the state and stop unnecessary spending so as to pay salaries of workers who are currently being owed in the state. This was contained in a statement issued by the Director of Media and Strategy of the PDP in Osun State, Mr. Diran Odeyemi.
7. The IG of Police, IGP Solomon Arase, in what appears like a shocking statement affirmed that the Nigeria Police, has the least corrupt officers of all government institutions in the country. He spoke at the annual symposium of the Feast of Barracuda organised by the National Association of Seadogs.
8. The General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William Kumuyi has expressed optimism that President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President, Yemi Osibanjo will deliver good governance to the people. Speaking with some journalists at the Kaduna Airport weekend after presiding over a revival crusade, Kumuyi said he had so much belief in their ability following their past record.
9. In what seems like an irony, a former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, on Sunday, advised PDP lawmakers in the House of Representative to vote for Femi Gbajabiamila as the Speaker of the 8th House of Representatives.
10. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has described the All Progressives Congress, APC, as an insincere political party, exhibiting double standard. It alleged that the same party that once chastised immediate past President, Goodluck Jonathan for seeking regional cooperation to finding solution to the challenge of insurgency, is now showering accolades on President Muhammadu Buhari for taking the same step.
