Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Monday morning

Good morning! Here are 10 things you need to know this morning:

1. Former Niger Delta Minister, Elder Godsday Orubebe has blamed his ongoing travails on his closeness to former President Goodluck Jonathan. He said President Buhari and his team were after him for no just reason as he had not committed any offence.

2. In what appears like a response to Olisa Metuh’s recent outburst, the All Progressives Congress (APC) spokesman, Lai Mohammed has claimed that personal attacks by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national publicity secretary was an indication that he will not survive in the opposition, saying that its earlier suggestion that Metuh goes on a crash course will not work as he is not trainable.

3. Report has claimed that about 11 suspected Boko Haram members were killed on Sunday, when three suspected suicide bombers attacked two remote military posts in the Lake Chad area.

4. The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria, Sunday night qualified for the Semi-final of the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile, after defeating Brazil 3:0 in a quarter-final encounter. Victor Osimhen, Michael Dogo Kingsley and Udochukwu Anumudu hit the net for the Eaglets.

5. Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State, Sunday, appointment Mrs. Olabowale Toluwalope Ademola as the 19th Head of Service (HOS) in the Lagos State Public Service. The announcement was contained in a statement issued by Ambode’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Habib Aruna.

6. The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Martin Abeshi, has ordered that all immigration personnel should henceforth remove roadblocks at border areas. His reason is that they could screen foreigners coming into the country without necessarily blocking the road with logs and tyres.

7. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared Alhaji Babakaka Garbai, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the Borno Central Senatorial district by-election. According to the announcement, Garbai scored 120, 639 votes to defeat Alhaji Kaka Bolori of the PDP who polled 32,347 votes.

8. The Presidency has denied the list being circulated online on the likely portfolios of the confirmed Ministers. The Special Adviser to President ( Media and Publicity) Mr. Femi Adesina said that the list did not emanate from the presidency as it was not officially signed.

9. Contrary to reports that Coach Samson Siasia may be sacked over his recent outburst on the NFF, member of the Technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ahmed Yusuf has disclosed that the football house had no intention of sacking him.

10. Report has it that following the successful cancer surgery conducted on former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke in a London hospital on October 22, 2015, serious security has now been beefed up around her.
