Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Monday morning

Good morning! Here are 10 thing things you need to know this morning.

1. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Sunday night announced the incumbent governor, and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon. Seriake Dickson, winner of the Bayelsa State governorship election.

Dickson defeated his closest rival, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to win the controversial election after polling 134,998 votes, while Sylva garnered 86, 852 votes.

2. Two men, who claimed to be President Mohammadu Buhari’s private security aides, were on Saturday, arrested at the Afao-Ekiti, home town of the Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose.

They were nabbed for presenting themselves as staff of the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), with influence over the report of the military panel set up to investigate alleged involvement in partisan politics by some soldiers and officers during the 2014/ 2015 gubernatorial election conducted in some states such as Ekiti, Osun, Rivers and Akwa-Ibom.

3. Lagos-based lawyer and human rights activist, Femi Falana has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to obey the rule of law and without delay release the detained former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.

Falana wondered why President Buhari has been breaching the constitution on daily basis whereas the Peoples Democratic Party For 16 years exhibited total contempt for the Rule of Law.

4. Outspoken man of God and Bishop in charge of Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Matthew Kukah on Sunday lamented the inequalities between the public office holders in Nigeria and the masses.

The Bishop, who spoke at the Holy Ghost Cathedral Enugu in a thanksgiving mass to mark the re-wedding of old Anambra State Governor, Senator Jim Nwobodo and his wife in the Catholic church, affirmed that the country is more divided than ever before.

5. A former governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party in Benue State, Samuel Ode has dumped the party for the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Ode, who announced his defection from the former ruling party in his Otukpo ward three, said he was no longer comfortable with the PDP.

6. Top Nollywood actress will die this year and many billionaires will fall. These were part of the prophecies of General Overseer, Abuja-based Divine Hand of God Prophetic Ministries, Prophet Emmanuel Omale.

The man of God said, though prayers can avert these looming disasters, but the New Year will be hard and dry.

He also predicted that a former Governor’s wife in the South-South should pray against terminal illness.

7. The Living Faith Church, otherwise known as Winners Chapel has denied the alleged resignation of its founder and president, Bishop David Oyedepo.

The ministry was reacting to various online medium (NOT DAILY POST), which claimed that Bishop Oyedepo has handed over the affairs of the ministry to his first son, David Oyedepo Jnr.

8. Founder of the Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to adopt the report of the National Conference convened by his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan in 2014.

In a state of the nation address in his church entitled: ‘Road map to successful change,’ Bakare argued that though, the All Progressives Congress, APC, refused to participate in the exercise, the report was done by Nigerians and should be implemented.

9. The Independent People of Biafra, IPOB, has cried out over the continued dentention of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The group asked Buhari to release the Radio Biafra director without delay, considering his worsening health condition.

Addressing newsmen, Sunday, in Nnewi, IPOB Media and Publicity Officer, Mr. Emma Powerful alleged that the Federal Government through the DSS had perfected plans to systematically kill Kanu in the DSS cell by denying him doctors’ attention and subjecting him to torture on daily basis.

10. The immediate past Minister of Interior, Abba Moro has replied the deputy governor of the State, Benson Abounu over allegations of working against the interest of the Idoma people. Moro affirmed that anyone who wants to impose an outsider on the Idoma people was mad and would not succeed.
