1. The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has refuted saying the Nigerian economy had gone out of the control of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
Mohammed was quoted as making the comment (on the state of the country’s economy) on a radio show on Saturday. He said the Federal Government decided to turn the economic disaster that it inherited from the previous government to a blessing by diversifying the economy.
2. The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party has taken a new turn as two members of the party have asked an Abuja High Court to force its chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff to vacate office by the end of March. They are also seeking an order of the court to compel the party’s national leadership not to hold the forthcoming national convention until the membership register of the party is computerised as stipulated in section 8 (11) of its constitution.
3. Chief John Antenyi, the traditional ruler of Apa community has confirmed that the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase did not visit his community as claimed in the media. Antenyi said Arase’s claim that he visited Agatu and Apa, which had been under attacks by the Fuani herdsmen were untrue, adding that he stopped in Makurdi and didn’t come anywhere near the ravaged community.
4. The presidency has debunked the media claims that Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, had to call off his trip to India for the India-Africa conference because of the fear that Senate President Bukola Saraki would become acting president. According to the presidency, Buhari acts fully in the capacity of his office whether he is in Nigeria or abroad on official responsibilities. It said Buhari remains the president wherever he is.
5. The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngigie has stated that those complaining of hardship are loyalists of the Peoples Democratic Party. According to him, once they approve the budget as proposed, things would take shape in the country.
6. Embattled former Chief of Defense Staff, CDS, Air Chief Marshal, Alex Badeh (rtd) has reportedly rejected food served by prison authorities.
Badeh, according to report has opted to feed himself pending the time he perfects the conditions for bail granted him last week. He was to have opted to feed himself, an indulgence that is granted all awaiting trial inmates.
7. The Traditional ruler of Mubi in Adamawa State, Isah Ahamdu, has warned the state Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to stop deceiving members of the general public. Ahmadu warned political parties against imposing candidates on the electorates as it affects the nation in general and not their parties.
8. At least, 172 Nigerian migrants, including 6 women, have been repatriated to Nigeria from Libya, the International Organization for Migration, IOM, has said.
IOM said almost all the migrants were detained as they were trying to cross to Europe.
9. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has denied newspaper reports that some people are still trapped under the rubbles of the Lekki Gardens’ building that collapsed last Tuesday, more than three days after the rescue operation ended. LASEMA General Manager, Mr. Michael Akindele, told DAILY POST on Sunday that the Agency in company of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the representative of the Nigeria Police on Wednesday 9th of March 2016 declared the operation completed at about 7.20 p.m after thorough search by all the emergency responders and concluded that nobody – dead or alive – was buried under the rubbles.
10. The scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit continues to bite harder. Reports say the product was sold between N150 to N200 per litre on Sunday. In Lagos, many filling stations still remained under lock and key.
