Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Monday morning

Good morning! Here are 10 things you need to know this morning.

1. The Spiritual Leader of INRI Evangelical Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele has once again reaffirmed his prophecy that Nigeria would split in no distant time.

The controversial preacher, while speaking with newsmen also said that President Buhari would not lead Nigeria to the desired promised land, adding that someone will take over from him soon.

2. Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Bode George has declared that he has no ambition to lead the former ruling party.

George, however, called on the need for the PDP to zone the chairmanship position to the South West, saying the region remained the only one that had not got the position since 1999.

He also called on the interim national chairman of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sherrif to honour his word to hand over to an elected chairman at the party’s National Convention on May 21.

3.The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has asked anyone criticizing the President Muhammadu Buhari’s foreign trips to go and examine his head.

Oyegun said people like Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State and other critics of the president over his foreign trips needed to check their mental status properly.

He insisted that President Buhari was on the verge of restoring the nation’s lost glory outside the country.

4. Leader of the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, Ralph Uwazuruike has asked Nigerias to expect the emergence of 20 more pro-agitation groups in a bid to actualise the dream of an Independent Sovereign State of Biafra.

Uwazuruike who spoke through his group’s Director of Information, Mazi Chris Mocha, stated that the only pre-condition for accepting to work with such groups was if they agreed to adopt a non-violent posture in their agitation, adding the fight for the creation of Biafra would be more effective, if 20 more pro-Biafra groups united for the common course.

5. A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has stated that the Federal Road Safety Corps has no power to impose fines on motorists for traffic offences.

Justice John Tsoho in his verdict, maintained that the FRSC could not turn itself into a court of law by punishing those who commit traffic offences.

6. The Enugu State Police Command has nabbed about eight persons over the ongoing violence at Alor Uno in Nsukka Local Government Area of the state in a supremacy battle over alleged slavery.

Ugbene and Ejuona communities in Alor Uno have been at war over who are the aborigines or slaves in the last 40 years.

7. Suspected Fulani Herdsmen, Sunday attacked Moor, a council ward in Kwande Local Government Area of the state, sacking the entire community.

The crisis, which started as far back as 2013 has led to the death of over 100 persons and many others injured.

8. The All Progressives Congress, APC, has faulted a letter addressed to the President of China by Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state, asking him to turn down the loan request by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The APC Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, regretted that the governor got himself busy spending Ekiti money on frivolities, while workers’ salaries remained unpaid for four months.

9. Farmers in Tyoshin community in Gwer-West Local Government Area of Benue State have sued six Fulani Herdsmen for N100bn for destroying their farms.

Justice Morris Ikpambese of High Court, Makurdi, who granted a motion ex parte brought by the people said the writ of summons should be served in the office of the chairman, civilian joint task force on the Tiv-Fulani affairs in Benue and Nasarawa states, in the premises of the office of the deputy governor of the state.

10. Gunmen have killed no fewer than six persons in Gokana and Eleme local government areas of Rivers State.

Among those killed were two PDP members whose identities were given as Lekia Nzeregbara and Fred Teedom. The root cause of the attack is still unknown at the moment.
