1. The police on Sunday smashed a fake election result sheets manufacturing factory in Rivers State ahead of the forthcoming legislative rerun in the state.
However, the Independent National Electoral Commission has since distanced itself from the shocking discovery, saying that it had no links with the illegal production.
2. The IfeanyiUbah FC also known as Anambra Warriors have been crowned winner of the 2016 edition of the Federation Cup.
They defeated Nasarawa United 5-4 on penalty shootouts after the game ended goalless at full-time. The club will now represent Nigeria at the continental level in the CAF Confederations Cup next season.
3. There’s palpable tension and confusion in Kogi State following the sudden disappearance of the state governor, Yahaya Bello from the public scene for about two weeks.
At the moment, all state functions have been put on hold, leaving the Deputy Governor, Simon Achuba, with only the duty of receiving visitors on behalf of his boss. However, the government said the governor is not sick as widely being speculated.
4. The Governing Council of the Osun State University, Osogbo, has fired Dr. Olabode Ojoniyi of the Department of Languages and Linguistics, Ikire Campus, who was recently captured on tape trying to sexually take advantage of one of his students, Mercy Ikwue.
The Governing Council headed by Mallam Yusuf Ali SAN, sacked the lecturer, after a careful investigation.
5. The Nigeria Labour Congress has warned the Federal Government against any further increase in the pump price of petroleum products, especially Premium Motor Spirit, otherwise called petrol.
Findings at the retail stations of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporations in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and its environs show that the pump price of the PMS have hiked to N145 from the initial N141. The workforce warned that any attempt to increase the pump price of the product would lead to total shutdown of the economy.
6. The House of Representatives Ad hoc Committee on Insurance has vowed to issue a warrant for the arrest of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Col. Hameed Ali (retd.), over an alleged N250m insurance fraud committed by the NCS.
The committee, which is chaired by an All Progressives Congress lawmaker from Ogun State, Mr. Adekunle Akinlade, had earlier summoned the CG to appear before it on Friday last week over the allegation but the former instead delegated three of his subordinates to attend the committee’s session on the grounds that he had “other important national assignments to attend,” but the house turned it down.
7. Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, has explained the reason for the sudden increment of price of petrol in Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) filling stations across the nation, saying that the increase could be as a result of foreign exchange differentiation.
8. General Overseer of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, Prophet Temitope Joshua, has predicted that the next President of the United States will be a woman. Hilary Clinton is the only woman in contention of the White House race with Donald Trump.
According to him, the next US President would face an uphill task in passing bills.
9. The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has accused the social media of sabotaging the efforts of the current government.
He stated that in order to ensure that Nigerians get undiluted and correct information, the government has resorted to taking its messages directly to the people using the Town Hall Meeting.
10. Troops of 7 Division Nigerian Army, Operation Lafiya Dole have rescued 85 people, comprising mostly women and children held hostage by insurgents in Borno north.
Col. Sani Usman, army’s acting spokesman said the hostages were rescued when the troops conducted a decisive clearance operation into the remnants of Boko Haram strategic town of Chukungudu.
