Nigerian newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Monday morning

Good morning! Here is today’s summary of Nigerian newspapers:

1. Nigeria’s senior women national team, Super Falcons, thrashed Mali 6-0 in their first game in the ongoing Africa Women Cup of Nations. Asisat Oshoala, scored four goals in the encounter. Uchechi Sunday and Francesca Ordega scored one goal each.

2. The presidency on Sunday announced that the deployment of 200,000 unemployed graduates selected in the first batch of the Buhari administration’s plan to hire half a million Nigerians has commenced. It said their names have now been sent to state governments and the FCT who would deploy them to their specific programme assignments.

3. Wives of the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Aliyu Tijjani, Hajia Rabi Aliyu and Hajia Larai Aliyu, Saturday regained their freedom after being kidnapped by unknown gunmen. DPS Kenedy Idrissu, Spokesman of the state Police Command, on Sunday in Lafia, said that the women were released by their abductors at about 11 p.m. on Saturday at Mararaba-Udege village in Nasarawa town.

4. Senator Yele Omogunwa, representing Ondo South Senatorial district in the Senate, formally decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) Sunday evening at his home town in Irele Local Government area of Ondo State. With this, the PDP has no single Senator in Ondo as all the three representing the State are now of the APC.

5. The Head of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), Prophet T.B Joshua, has claimed that his prophecy on the US Presidential Election failed, because Christians around the world prayed and “changed” it. In an explanation on Youtube, Joshua likened his prophecy to that of Jonah in the Bible, whose prophecy on Nineveh caused its inhabitants to go into a 40-day fast, that made God to change his mind.

6. Ex-militant leader, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo , Alias Tompolo has accused one Michael Johnny, a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC of allegedly sponsoring the bombings of oil facilities in the Niger Delta region, debunking the allegation that the militants were bombing pipelines in the region because of the criminal charges leveled against him by the federal government. This was contained in a statement signed by his Media Consultant, Comrade Paul Bebenimibo in Warri, Delta State.

7. Gunmen have abducted a former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Amb. Bagudu Hirse. Report says the former Minister was abducted from the house of Mamman Daura in Kaduna. The report further said he was allegedly mistaken for Daura, an associate of President Muhammadu Bihari.

8. A report has claimed that the United States Department of Justice has denied having any criminal charges against former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar. The department was responding to a question that followed an allegation by the Kaduna State Governor, El-Rufai over an alleged criminal charges against Abubakar.

9. The Edo State Police Command has arrested three suspects in the alleged robbery attack and murder of the late Mrs. Grace Omoigui, the mother of a former Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Ifueko Omoigui-Okauru.

10. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Department of State Security Service (DSS) have restricted the movement of about 15 judges under investigation within the country. According to the order, the judges cannot travel abroad until permitted by a court.
