Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Monday morning

1. The Super Eagles of Nigeria Sunday night failed to qualify for the final stage of the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt after falling 2-1 to the Desert Foxes of Algeria.

Nigeria will now battle Tunisia for the third place of AFCON.

2. The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has called for caution over the tagging of Fulani herdsmen as those behind the killing of the daughter of Pa Reuben Fasoranti, Mrs Funke Olakunrin.

Tinubu, who paid a condolence visit to the Afenifere National Leader in Akure, the Ondo State capital on Sunday over the murder of Mrs. Olakunrin by those suspected to be herdsmen, stated that Fulanis should not be held responsible for the incident.

3. Femi Fani-Kayode, former Minister of Aviation has blasted National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, over his statement at Afenifere National leader’s home in Akure, Ondo State.

Fani-Kayode described the national leader’s speech at Afenifere leader’s home as ‘Inconsiderate and insensitive’, saying Tinubu was at Pa Fasoranti’s home to mock him and speak for Fulani masters rather than sympathize.

4. The General Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly in Lagos, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has said “Nigeria’s cup is full”.

Bakare, who stated this while delivering his sermon on Sunday, in reaction to the gruesome murder of Mrs Funke Olakunrin, the daughter of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, specifically took a swipe at the political and security leaders in the country, saying both had been playing politics with the lives of the citizens through deliberate inaction.

5. Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, has described the killing of Mrs Funke Olakunrin, the daughter of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, “as shocking.”

Gbajabiamila in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Lanre Lasisi, said the untimely death of Olakunrin was a huge blow to the family.

6. Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Sunday, transmitted a list of Commissioner-designates to the House of Assembly for ratification.

The list contained twenty five names, who are to assume duty as Commissioners and Special Advisers upon ratification by the legislature.

7. The Nigerian Army on Sunday released the postings and appointments of its officers.

The posting, which was approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen TY Buratai, includes the appointment of the newly promoted Lt Gen LO Adeosun, the erstwhile Chief of Training and Operations now redeployed as Chief of Policy and Plans (Army).

8. Lauretta Onochie, Special Assistant on social media to President Muhammadu Buhari, has reacted the death of Mrs. Funke Olakunrin, the daughter of Pa Reuben Fasoranti, Afenifere leader.

She called for the arrest of Mr. Yinka Odumakin, spokesman of Afenifere for allegedly suggesting that the brutal murder of Mrs. Olakunrin in Ondo state, while on transit to Lagos was perpetrated by suspected herdsmen.

9. A father, Mr.Oti Ato and his son, Sunday, were on Saturday murdered in Ebom in Abi local government area of Cross River State.

The Village Head of Ebom, Chief Sunday Obite disclosed to newsmen that three persons are still missing, as the headless bodies of the victims have been recovered with the help of soldiers deployed to the communities.

10. Residents of Adao community in Alabata area of Odeda Local Government in Ogun s

state on Sunday, were thrown into confusion as one of their own was killed by suspected herdsmen.

The 49-year-old farmer, Rafiu Showemimo, was stabbed in the neck by suspected herdsmen on his way back home from the farm around 12 noon.
