1. A former Governor of Niger State, Abdulkadir Kure, is dead. Kure was the State Governor from 1999 to 2007. He died on Sunday at the age of 60, in a German hospital. The news of his death was confirmed by the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state, Tanko Beji.
2. Boko Haram insurgents group attacked a military location in Damaturu, the Yobe state capital on Saturday, killing five soldiers and a Captain in the process. Soldiers in Damaturu confirmed the development on Sunday, saying they lost the officers after Boko Haram militants attacked the 27 Task Force Brigade located in Buni Yadi, one of the Boko Haram strongholds in that part of the state.
3. Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, on Sunday claimed that, the Nigerian High Commission in the United Kingdom spent £32, 000 as landing fees for private jets of former First Ladies. She made the disclosure while absolving herself of corrupt allegations levelled against her by on online news platform, saying what was spent on her trips so far was nothing compared to what was spent in the past by other First Ladies.
4. Suspected Fulani herdsmen have reportedly killed five farmers in two different attacks in Abraka and Obiaruku, both in Ethiope East and Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State. Report says the incident happened between Tuesday and Wednesday last week.
5. For adjusting their meters just to take advantage of customers, 13 filling stations in Badagry, Lagos State, have been sealed. Report sats two Total filling stations, one MRS filling station and two Energy filling stations were allegedly involved in the act. Also involved were Dalco, Royal Stream, Lasbat, Ramos, JWMS, Jackos, Olubisi Obinja and NYBO filling stations.
6. Report says two civilians were again killed in Tsonje, a community near Kagoro in Kaduna South after the Nigeria Police Force and some youth engaged some terrorists in a 24 hour gun battle from Friday to Saturday.
7. President Muhammadu Buhari has assured Nigerians that very soon, the remaining Chibok girls will be rescued and Nigerians as well as their expectant parents will have reason to celebrate. The President gave this assurance while speaking in commemoration of 1000 days of the abduction of the girls.
8. Militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, has threatened to renew hostilities in the oil rich region, saying it will hit President Muhammadu Buhari very hard in 2017. The group said the threat was necessary following government’s inaction towards the peace talk agreed with the region last year.
9. Report says the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, is set to begin a three-day nationwide warning strike on Wednesday, over disputes with International Oil Companies, IOCs, especially indiscriminate sack of workers without benefits and refusal to allow their workers to join union.
10. Presidency has explained again how beneficiaries of the N5,000 stipend in the Social Investment Programmes, SIP, were selected. It said the process was done through a credible process by non partisan approach, disclosing also that government workers, working with the state officials, identified the poorest local government areas, using an existing poverty map for the state.
