Nigerian newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Monday morning

Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. The Federal Government said on Sunday that its whistle-blower policy had so far resulted in the recovery of over $151m (N46bn) and N8bn of looted funds. The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, stated this in a statement.

2. Report says many people have been feared killed in a boundary dispute between the Oku Iboku people in Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State and the people of Ikot Offiong in Odukpani LGA in Cross River State. Report says heavy fight broke out between the two communities on Friday night.

3. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has appealed to Justice Muslim Hassan of the Federal High Court in Lagos to ignore the application by a former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, seeking the transfer of his criminal trial from Lagos to Abuja, saying the witnesses it intended to call in the case lives in Lagos.

4. The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has claimed that five of its members were allegedly shot dead in Asaba Delta State‎ on Sunday. A by IPOB spokesman, Emma Powerful claimed that military men stormed a gathering of the pro-Biafra group and shot members resulting to the death of five of them.

5. The new management of Arik Air has said it inherited nearly a non-functional carrier with only 10 of the 28 aircraft in its fleet working. It also said that N10bn would be required to revive the airline so it can begin full and uninterrupted flight operations to its regular routes across the country and beyond.

6. Former Special Assistant to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan on New Media, Reno Omokri, has further accused President Muhammadu Buhari of keeping Babachir Lawal as Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, despite the corruption allegation against him. Reno who was reacting to the raid on the home of former General Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Andrew Yakubu, in Kaduna said while Jonathan fired Yakubu over corruption, Buhari has refused to take action against Lawal.

7. Former Governor of Delta State, James Ibori, on Sunday declared that he is not a thief and cannot be a thief as alleged by many people. He was speaking during a thanksgiving service organised in his honour in Oghara, his hometown. He said his concern while in prison in the United Kingdom, was how his people were coping with his absence.

8. A former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mrs. Farida Waziri, has called on Nigerians to stop making the medical trip of President Muhammadu Buhari a media subject.She said, instead of making crude statement about the President’s health, Nigerians should learn the habit of praying and encouraging him, as great nation does not wish their president dead.

9. Former Vice President General of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo, Chief Enechi Onyia (SAN) on Sunday said that the vision of the founding fathers of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo has been suppressed as politicians were now parading themselves as leaders of Ndigbo. He also dismissed the Chief Nnia Nwodo-led Ohanaeze National Executive Council, insisting that Chief Ralph Obioha is the authentic national president.

10. The ongoing Big Brother Nigerian is becoming more interesting following the Sunday eviction of Cocoice and the introduction of two new fake housemates to spice up the show. The two new fake housemates are Jon and Ese who joined the rest of the housemates amid surprise and intrigue.
