1. A medical doctor identified as Dr Allwell Orji, on Sunday committed suicide on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos. Report says the doctor asked his driver to park after receiving a call and jumped into the lagoon. The incident happened around 4pm. The driver and the vehicle have been taken to the Adeniji Adele Police Station.
2. Despite putting up a fantastic performance at the ongoing Big Brother Naija reality TV show, Thin Tall Tony on Sunday night ended his quest to win the N25 million star prize as he was evicted from the house. He, however, admitted he was happily married and that he deliberately kept that away from the media because of the way Nigerians think about married people.
3. Super Eagles camp will open today in London, the United Kingdom. Players invited to the camp ahead of the two friendly matches against Burkina Faso and Senegal will report to camp today. Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho, Arsenal star Alex Iwobi, Leicester City duo Ahmed Musa and Wilfred Ndidi, Watford starlet Isaac Success, and Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme will all be at the camp.
4. The suicide bombing that occurred at Ummarari Village in Jere Local Government of Borno State killed a mother, her two children and a member of Civilian JTF, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has disclosed. The attack which led to death of 7 victims, injured eight others.
5. Report says Thursday’s assassination of a lecturer in the Department of Accounting, University of Calabar, Dr. Emmanuel Igbeng, by gunmen has resulted to cult war in Calabar, the Cross River State capital as seven other persons have been reportedly killed within three days following the renewed clash between KKK and Vikings.
6. Members of the Adoration Ministry, Enugu, attacked a Lagos-based cleric, Pastor Chris Okafor over his recent comment on Enugu fiery priest, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka. Speaking in Enugu, Mr. Humphrey Duruh, who is the leader of the Adoration Family, Lagos State, called on Okafor, of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministry, to utilize his energy in restoring his alleged battered marriage instead attacking a true man of God.
7. A Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chieftain, Femi Fani-Kayode, has described the Comptroller General of Nigerian Customs Services, NCS, Gen Hameed Ali (rtd) as a “stubborn, arrogant monkey” for refusing to appear before the senate in uniform, urging the senate to insist he appears before it naked.
8. Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, has asked Senator Ahmed Makarfi and his Caretaker Committee to step down in the interest of the party. Chairman of the PDP Reconciliation Committee made the call while speaking with newsmen on Sunday in Abuja. He said he personally kicked against the option of Sheriff, initially but the party has to move forward despite who is now in charge.
9. A human rights advocacy group, Save Humanity Advocacy Centre, has issued a seven-day ultimatum to Amnesty International (AI) for allegedly fuelling the survival of Boko Haram terrorists in Nigeria by constantly undermining the country’s security agencies through negative reports and emboldening the terror group.
10. The renewal, and re-award of existing oil pipeline protection contracts, possibly to militant leaders; overhaul of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, and the immediate take-off of the controversial National Maritime University, Okerenkoko in Gbaramatu, Delta State are all in the pipeline as measures by the Federal Government to end activities of militants in the Niger Delta; a report has claimed.
