Nigerian newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Monday morning

Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. Report says militants have invaded the Woodland Estate area, Ishawo in Ikrodu of Lagos State, resulting to the death of two soldiers and five policemen. According to the report, security agencies have reinforced and now in the area in order restore normalcy.

2. The National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, Enugu State lost a member this weekend after an unidentified female corps member got drowned in a swimming pool inside a hotel located at Ugwuoba community in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State. The incident happened at Hotel De Oranzi Resort.

3. Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has denied the claim by a former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ishaya Bamaiyi, that he planned to kill him (Bamaiyi) Obasanjo Wondered why he would want to kill Bamaiyi, stating that his government had between 1999 and 2007 arrested the former COAS over the alleged killing of other people while he was working for Gen. Sani Abacha.

4. Following the vibrations that occurred at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on Sunday, the Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, has said it was not in any way a structural issue or an earthquake but the result of unlatched doors where the coolers, which were just put in use were housed. The minister said the rumour that the vibrations had affected the structural integrity of the airport was untrue and misleading.

5. Unidentified gunmen on Sunday abducted the Cross River State Commissioner for Water Resources, Mr Gabriel Odu-Orji. The commissioner was abducted around 12pm at Effionawan Street in the Mayne Avenue area of Calabar-South. Report says the gunmen, who were five in number, came in a blue Audi car and cornered their victim as he stepped down to eat in a restaurant.

6. Popular reality TV show, Big Brother Naija, ended on Sunday with Efe, the only male housemate that made it to the final of the competition emerging winner of the show. Efe who got more than 50 percent of the total votes left with N25m cash prize alongside an SUV Jeep. Meanwhile, Bisola emerged the first runner-up of the show.

7. A member of the Civilian Joint Task Force and five others have been arrested by Benue State Police Command for cattle rustling. Parading the suspects at the command headquarters in Makurdi, weekend, the state Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, said they were intercepted at Adoka in Otukpo Local Government Area by police personnel.

8. President Muhammadu Buhari has declared Mondays and Wednesdays every week, as Made-in-Nigeria Dress Days across the country. The declaration was contained in a letter dated 4th April, 2017, and addressed to the Executive Secretary of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Barclays Foubiri Ayakoroma, through the Federal Ministry of Information & Culture.

9. Members of the National Executive Council of the All Progressives Congress, under the aegis of the Forum of APC NEC members, have decried their continued exclusion from the party’s affairs. They expressed their grievances in a letter addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari.

10. Former President , Olusegun Obasanjo, has advised the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission not to just carry out thorough investigation of corruption cases, but also hire the services of experienced lawyers that can win their cases at the end. Obasanjo gave the advice while reacting to President Muhammadu Buhari’s order to the EFCC to stop losing cases.
