1. The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has asked the Supreme Court not to hear an appeal filed by the sacked National Caretaker Committee of the party led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi. The hearing in the appeal is slated to hold before the Supreme Court on Monday (today).
2. The Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed has denied reports that a ransom of two million euro was paid by the Federal Government to Boko Haram for the release of the 82 girls. He was responding to a report that Boko Haram received the ransom as part of the deal to release the girls. Mohammed insisted that apart from the five commanders of the group that were freed, no other deal was reached.
3. Real Madrid on Sunday, defeated Malaga 2-0 to win the 2016/2017 La Liga title. Cristiano Ronaldo opened scoring as early as the second minute of the encounter, before Karim Benzema added the second 10 minutes into the second half. It is Madrid’s first league win in five years.

6. The Nigerian Army has announced the zonal screening for its 76th regular recruitment intake for trades/non-tradesmen and women. The screening which was initially scheduled to hold from January 22 to February 3, 2017, will now hold between May 27 and June 9, 2017. Successful candidates will immediately begin training at the Depot Nigerian Army in Zaria. This was contained in a statement, issued by its Chief of Administration, Major-General I. M. Alkali.
7. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board says it will watch recordings of proceedings in its Closed Circuit Camera Televisions during the just-concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination. The board’s Head, Media and Information, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, said this in a statement on Sunday in Lagos that such would enable it to detect centres where examination malpractices were perpetrated.
8. A Dental Nursing student, Mosunmola of the Ogun State College of Health Technology, Ilese Ijebu, has alleged that one Dr Oluseyi Adu, a lecturer in the school is responsible for her pregnancy. Mosunmola is alleging that the lecturer had sex with her in a hotel sometime in August, 2016. The lecturer has, however, denied. He said it was a protected sex.
9. The Presidency says the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Ayo Oke, remain suspended from their offices. Senior Special Assistant to the Acting President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande, confirmed this in a statement on Sunday.
10. The Rivers state Police Command has said it will soon charge to court the middle-aged man simply identified as Inimgba who beat his seven year old son to death at Amadi-Ama area of Port Harcourt. The Command’s spokesman, Nnamdi Omoni said the police will take its next action after a post mortem had been conducted on the boy.
