1. Big Brother Naija, BBNaija housemate Thelma and Nelson were evicted from the Pepper Dem edition on Sunday. Nelson was the first to leave the house during the Sunday Live eviction show followed by Thelma. Seven housemates have so far been evicted, leaving 14 still in contention for the N60m grand prize.
2. No fewer than sixty person were on Saturday killed by gunmen in Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State. Insurgents on a reprisal mission attacked Badu village in Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno and killed over 60 persons and wounded 11 others. The Chairman of the local government council, Muhammad Bulama, who spoke on the incident on Sunday, said the insurgent had recently attacked Badu village but they were repelled by the villagers and members of the vigilante group.
3. President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday condemned the dastardly attack on a funeral procession in Borno State, which caused the deaths of over 60 mourners. Buhari said he had received assurances from the armed forces that the terrorists who committed the killings would pay a “big price” for their action.
4. President Muhammadu Buhari was on Sunday dragged to the Supreme Court for alleged perjury over the information he supplied to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in the just concluded February 23, presidential election. The appellants who are Kalu Kalu, Labaran Ismail and Hassy El-Kuris are challenging the qualification of Buhari for the election and seeking the apex court to retroactively nullify his candidacy.
5. Many residents of Egbeda area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Sunday deserted their respective homes for fear of being shot by hoodlums suspected to be members of factions of the recently proscribed National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). DAILY POST gathered that deafening sound of gunshots boomed in the area during the weekend, causing panic and pandemonium as residents ran for cover to avoid needless bodily harm and injury.
6. The African Democratic Congress, ADC, yesterday, berated the All Progressives Congress, APC, for nominating a man from Ijebu in Ogun State, Olorunnimbe Mamora, as a representative of Lagos in the President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet. ADC said that the APC and its government had remained unfair to citizens of Lagos origin. The ADC said it was sad, that no native of Lagos was found capable to occupy major political positions in the State, adding that from governorship to State Assembly to Federal House and Senate, Lagosians are hardly considered.
7. President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday approved establishment of a National Action Committee (NAC) for the implementation of African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Agreement. He said the National Action Committee will be comprised of representatives of Ministries and Agencies with competent and relevant jurisdiction, and selected stakeholder groups from the private sector and the civil society to coordinate the implementation of all the AfCFTA readiness interventions.
8. The Islamic Movement (IMN) also known as Shiites on Sunday said the Buhari government obtained a court order against it to cover up killing of its members over the years. Noting that IMN was in consultation with their lawyers, Musa lamented that Shiites have been victims of Buhari government-sponsored terror attacks throughout his first term and continuing.
9. Prophet Samuel Oyadara, the founder of Christ for All Peoples Church, Ojoo, Lagos State, on Sunday called on the Senate President, Senator Ahmed Lawan to pray against impeachment. He warned that crisis would soon erupt amongst members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, which would lead to initiating an impeachment move against Lawan.
10. The presidency on Sunday, said proscription of Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) led by Sheikh Ibrahim El-zakzaky has nothing to do with banning the larger numbers of peaceful and law abiding Shiites in the country from practicing their religion. It said the proscription was to discourage wanton violence, murder and wilful destruction of public and private property.
