1. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will today, Monday July 10, commence the recall of Senator Dino Melaye (Kogi West). A team headed by INEC National Commissioner, might oversee the process, which may also involve its Operation Department.
2. Founder and President of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, ABUAD, Ekiti State, Aare Afe Babalola, has stated that former President Olusegun Obasanjo remained the best president Nigeria ever had. According to the elder statesman, Obasanjo was known to be a very energetic, strong-willed and stubborn person who was difficult to persuade, but is a progressive man.
3. Embattled former First Lady, Patience Jonathan has claimed that the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu once misinformed the British High Commission in Nigeria while asking that she should be denied visa.
Mrs. Jonathan claimed that Magu’s letter led to subsequent investigation by the British Government, which found her not wanting and subsequently issued her with a visa.
4. Nothern leader and former governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, has warned the Nigerian government against passing the Bill before the House of Representatives seeking amnesty for treasury looters.
Musa, who noted that bill is immoral and shows the level of moral degeneration the country has attained, especially at the leadership level, said it would only encourage corruption in the system.
5. The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council worldwide, OYC, yesterday faulted the recent series of consultations between Acting President Yemi Osinbajo and some Northern and South-East leaders, tagging it as ‘faulty and unproductive.’ According to the youths, holding such meetings without involving the youths would not achieve the desired outcome.
6. The management of Eko Electricity Distribution Company, on Sunday, announced that there would be power outage in Ikoyi, Victoria Island and its environs, because some of their injection substations and equipment had been submerged with flood.
The General Manager, Corporate Communications, EKEDC, Mr Godwin Idemudia, said they were having challenges in almost all its injection substations, as a result of the flood from recent heavy downpour in the area.
7. The Senator Ahmed Makarfi led Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has described its victory at the just concluded Osun West by-election as a clear indication that Nigerians have realized the sham and deceit of the All Progressive Congress (APC), led administration at all levels of governance.
According to the Party, the PDP remained the party to beat in all elections in Nigeria, without the interference of the APC in its current leadership issues.
8. Governor of Ekiti State Ayodele Fayose, has reappointed six out of the 16 sacked commissioners.
The cabinet members reappointed are Commissioner for Environment, Bisi Kolawole; Mrs Funmi Ogun (works), Ayodele Michael ( Commerce and Industry), Kehinde Odebunmi (Agriculture), Toyin Ojo (Finance) and Dr Olurotimi Ojo (Health).
9. The acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr Ibrahim Magu, has revealed how two army officers allegedly colluded with two employees of a top commercial bank to divert the sum of N339m from the account of the Military Pensions Board.
Magu, in a letter addressed to the Chief of Defence Staff, said the suspects, who were later charged with fraud offences on May 31, 2017, allegedly opened 33 accounts with a commercial bank into which the MPB’s funds were diverted.
10. In entertainment, Paul Okoye of the P-Square fame has welcomed a set of twins in the United States. The couple, who got married three years ago, announced the cheering news on Sunday to their teeming fans and followers via instagram.
