1. Kaduna state Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, Minister of Transport Rotimi Amaechi and the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) John Oyegun, on Sunday held an emergency meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in London. Also part of the meeting was Rochas Okorocha. This was disclosed by the managing director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Nsima Ekere, on Sunday as well as a statement issued by the presidency.
2. A fatal motor accident on Sunday claimed ten lives in Ile-ife, Osun State. Reports says the accident, involved a 18-seater Toyota Hiace bus, with registration number MUS 703XZ traveling along the Ife-Ibadan road, and a petrol tanker, with registration number YNF 328XA, coming from Ore, in Ondo State. According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Osun State, SP Folashade Odoro, the petrol tanker collided with the bus as it was making a u-turn.
3. Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo on Sunday assured parents and guardians of the kidnapped boys of Igbonla Government College, Epe, of the safe return of the children. Osinbajo told newsmen in Lagos that the Federal Government was collaborating with the state authorities on the matter, assuring that it was committed to securing their release.
4. Supporters of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), reportedly stormed a police station in Rivers state on Saturday, to demand for the release of three of their members. The said members were arrested on Saturday, while returning to their homes, after a visit to their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
5. The leadership of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to the recent warning issued against those carrying hate speeches and fake news by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed. A statement signed and issued on Sunday night by its National Publicity Secretary, Dayo Adeyeye, the PDP described Lai Mohammed as the author and sustainer of hate speeches in the polity. The party made references to several instances in which the Minister allegedly misled the unsuspecting members of the public, promoted hate speeches and fake news to Nigerians through the media in the past.
6. Celebrated actor and playwright, Adebayo Faleti, is dead. He died on Sunday in his home in Ibadan at the age of 86. Faleti’s son, Adeniyi, disclosed that the veteran actor died when he was being helped to take his bath.
7. Forty-three Boko Haram insurgents who recently surrendered to troops of Operation Lafiya Dole were on Saturday airlifted to join other repentant insurgents in Gombe. The former members will undergo a deradicalization and rehabilitation programme under Operation Safe Corridor.
8. A member of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos, Alhaji Lateef Ajikanle, has been electrocuted in his home on Bolaji Omupo Street, Somolu. He was allegedly picking rubbish from his compound even as it was flooded when he was electrocuted. He was confirmed dead at the hospital.
9. Kano State Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Yusuf, Saturday, disclosed that one of the Boko Haram suspects, who allegedly engaged the Police in a gun battle in Kano, was dismissed from the Nigeria Air Force. Yusuf said the dismissed officer escaped with gunshot wound from the Gaya, Unogo Local Government Area during the clash.
10. Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence, Sani Jaji has claimed he and members of his committee were under immense pressure not to reveal the real owner of the $43million loot discovered in a flat in Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos State. Jaji made the claim in a statement yesterday, adding that unsolicited advice was flying in from different quarters aiming at influencing the report of his committee.
