1. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has commenced an indefinite strike across the nation beginning Sunday August 13.

According to ASUU President, Biodun Ogunyemi, the lecturers took the decision to down their tools at their National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the University of Abuja during the weekend.

2. Three people died on Sunday after a storey-building collapsed in Owerri.

Several persons were also injured in the incident that happened in the state.

3. Gunmen identified to be armed robbers have shot and killed a police officer guarding Assemblies of God Church on the Oguta road Onitsha, Anambra State.

One person identified as an okada rider was also killed by the robbers, while a passenger said to be on the victim’s bike sustained gunshot wound and has been rushed to the hospital

4. A group of anti-Buhari protesters under the aegis of Concerned Nigerians has called on Presidential aides to allow President Muhammadu Buhari to resign so he could go home and rest from pressure of office.

The movement, during their seventh sit-out in Abuja yesterday, said they would hold the “President’s handlers who have formed a cabal responsible if anything happens to him.”

5. Benin Republic yesterday defeated Nigerian home-based team Super Eagles in the first leg of the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier inside the Stade de L’Amitie in Cotonou on Sunday.

An 89th minute penalty converted by Beninoise skipper, Seibou Mama sealed the first leg win 1 – 0 for the Beninoise team.

6. The Edwin Clark-led Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, on Sunday appealed to Yorubas and Northerners in the oil rich region to ignore the October 1 quit notice issued by some militant groups.

The group asked them to ignore the quit notice as it would not hold water.

7. A former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, has called for caution over the quit notice issued to some Igbos residents in the North.

Abubakar said the issue was generating heat in the polity, adding that the counter-notices issued to other Nigerians in certain parts of the country, were among the ripple effects.

8. The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta on Sunday accused some leaders of the Pan Niger Delta Forum including Chief Edwin Clark and HRH, King Alfred Diete-Spiff, of using the forum to seek political relevance and bounce back to life financially.

MEND, which also announced its withdrawal as a member of PANDEF, a forum of various ethnic nationality leaders in the Niger Delta, said it was “annoying working with pretenders who conspired to keep silent when Goodluck Jonathan wasted the opportunity of the region.”

9. The main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, says Acting President Yemi Osinbajo is not in charge of the country.

It said actions taken by the Acting President had shown that power was not handed over to him contrary to the claim by the Presidency that ailing President Muhammadu Buhari transferred power to him (Osinbajo) before leaving Nigeria for London on a medical trip more than 90 days ago.

10. Neymar scored a goal and provided an assist on his debut for Paris Saint-Germain, as they beat Guingamp 3-0 on Sunday.
