1. Human rights lawyer and activist, Femi Falana has warned Nigeria against admitting Morocco into the Economic Community of West Africa States, ECOWAS.
He warned the Nigerian Federal Government to promptly checkmate such an entry as it will speed up the breakup of the Nigerian state.
2. Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to seek re-election in 2019.
Umahi, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, said since it was his own desire to seek a second term as governor, he also wished the President to do the same thing.
3. A Lagos Federal High Court on Thursday ordered the interim forfeiture of the property known as Flat 7b no 16, Osborne Road in Ikoyi area of the state to the Federal Government.
Justice Saliu Saidu, granted the interim order while adjourning the matter till November 30, adding that the adjournment was to give any interested party an opportunity to come out and show cause why the property should not be permanently forfeited to the government.
4. The Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN) yesterday won its N2bn Human Rights Suit instituted against the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, the Nigerian Police Force and 4 others.
Interestingly, the presiding Judge, Hon. Justice Gabriel Kolawole also gave an order that the National Headquarters of the Corps located at No 57 Iya Abubakar Crescent, off Alex Ekwueme way, opposite Jabi Lake, Jabi, Abuja, be unsealed forthwith, while asking Police to release other properties of the Corps within 7 days.
5. The Itsekiri National Youth Council, INYC, Mr Esimaje Awani, has warned that if care was not taken, the approach of the Federal Government to the resolution of the Niger Delta crisis would spell anarchy for the nation.
In a statement, yesterday, the group said some of the proposals currently on the table do not constitute sustainable solution in a civilised society but only amounted to negation of the very values upon which civilised societies rest.
6. President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday met with Service Chiefs in his old office at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The meeting which is called the Armed Forces Council meeting was said to be the first since the President’s assumption of office.
7. The Igbo National Council, INC, has demanded that the position of the Vice President, currently occupied by Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (South West) be given to an Igbo man if President Muhammdu Buhari truly values the supports of the people of the South East in the next election.
In a statement in Owerri, the Imo State capital, the INC President, Chilos Godsent, said it was the only way the ruling party could get the votes of the people of the region in the 2019 general elections.
8. The Senate at plenary yesterday, approved 350 million dollars World Bank loan for Ogun State Development Policy Operation, DPO, as contained in the 2016-2018 Rolling Plan.
The approval followed the presentation of a report on the loan by Chairman, Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts, Sen. Shehu Sani.
9. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has revealed that political leaders and other key players in both public and private sectors in Africa launder the sum of $50 billion every year.
The ex-President noted that the increasing smuggling of such funds meant for socio-economic growth and development of African continent was now giving African leaders, past and present, great concerns.
10. The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni, People, MOSOP, has given the Federal Government till December 2017 to commence the clean-up of Ogoniland in Rivers State.
MOSOP said failure to do so, the Nigerian Government should “be ready to face the anger of the people.”
