Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Friday morning

Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Abubakar Magaji, yesterday declared that the Chairman of the defunct Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdurasheed Maina, was not reinstated. The ministry called on anyone with document showing that Maina was reinstated and assigned office to come forward and present it.

2. The Comptroller General of Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS, Mohammed Babandede, has claimed that a former Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdurasheed Maina, has not travelled out of the country since 2013. He said the documents and information available to them showed that Maina has not left the shores of the country since 2013, unless through illegal boarders.

3. The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, on Thursday, dismissed the appeal case filed by Sen. Umaru Dahiru challenging the emergence of Aminu Waziri Tanbbuwal as governor of Sokoto State. Justice Abubakar Yahaya who, presided over two other justices of the appellate court reserved the verdict of the court after counsel in the suit made their final brief of arguments to back up their respective reliefs sought at the court.

4. The Convener of Bring Back Our Girls Group, Aisha Yesufu, has criticized the federal government of Nigeria for declaring public holiday to celebrate this year’s Eid-El-Maulud.

The BBOG convener described the holiday as wasteful and an act of competitive religiosity.

5. The Imo State House of Assembly, yesterday suspended its Clerk, Chris Duru. The lawmakers suspended Duru, who was believed to be working for the governor and the Speaker, Acho Ihim against their interest.

6. The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Boboye Oyeyemi, says 25 officials of the Corps had been relieved of their jobs in Abuja. He said this was done after various allegations of corruption were established against them.

7. The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, on Thursday claimed that over 40 percent of the university staff watch pornographic videos and other illicit films during work hours. Ahaneku said he was able to monitor the development in offices on campus from his own network.

8. Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, yesterday, said that the All Progressives Congress, APC, led by President Muhammadu Buhari is indebted to Nigerians for supporting its aspirations to assume leadership in 2015. He also restated Federal Government’s resolve to empower Nigerians if those in government resist the urge to steal the nation’s resources that can go round to serve general good of all

9. The Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, says the state lost not less than N27bn worth of property to recent fire outbreaks in markets in the state. The governor said this while receiving the Comptroller General, Federal Fire Service, Joseph Anebi, who paid him a courtesy visit in Kano.

10. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has dismissed as untrue allegations that Governor Nyesom Wike was sponsoring former acting National Chairrman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus to emerge as the new national chairman of the party. Publicity Secretary of the party in Rivers State, Mr Samuel Nwanosike, told newsmen, yesterday, that the allegation was devoid of truth, stressing that the winner of the election would be determined by the delegates.
