1. The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has said that it is worried over the inability of internet users to use their leftover data after expiration date, saying that it will soon issue a directive to the service providers to give 14 days window to the subscribers to enable them roll over their unused data, even if they do not renew on the expiration of data.
2. The National Economic Council, on Thursday, directed the Federal Government to withdraw $1bn from the $2.3bn currently in the Excess Crude Account and use it to fight insurgency in the North-East. The decision was taken at a meeting of the council presided over by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
3. Former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel has assured PDP members that he has no intention of leaving the party for any reason. Daniel while speaking to Gov Seriake Dickson during a visit by the party’s reconciliation committee said it was too late to have such ideas despite grievous mistakes made during the party’s convention.
4. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has registered 21 new political parties. Following the development, the number of registered parties in Nigeria now stands at 67. A statement by INEC National Commissioner, May Agbamuche-Mbu, said the parties were registered after they met the required constitutional provision.
5. A driving instructor, identified as Festus Udoh, has confessed to killing a 23-year-old National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, member, Modupe Kawose. He said he took the lady into a bush at Mawuko, Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State, raped and strangled her.
6. President Muhammadu Buhari Thursday returned to Nigeria after participating at the ‘One Planet’ summit in Paris, France. His aircraft touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja around 4:35pm on Thursday and was received by his Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mohammed Bello.
7. The Osun State High Court sitting in Ilesa has declared the change in name of the state to “State of Osun” by Governor Rauf Aregbesola administration as a but bundle of illegality that has no place in the Nigerian legal frame. The presiding judge, Justice Yinka Afolabi described the name” State of Osun” as totally alien to the 1999 constitution and as such illegal.
8. The Independent National Electoral commission, INEC, has dismissed two officials for their alleged roles in the electoral scandal involving the Kogi State Governor, Yahya Bello.
Gov Bello, who is being accused of double voter registration cannot be persecuted because he enjoys constitutional immunity. INEC in a statement on Thursday said, it took the decision following the outcome of its investigation panel set up to check the staff’s involvement.
9. The National Industrial Court of Nigeria in Kaduna on Thursday ordered Kaduna State government to stop the planned sack of 21,000 primary school teachers who failed competency test. Justice Lawal Mani on Thursday at the hearing granted the reachers’ application pending the determination of the substantive suit and adjourned the case to February 6th, 2018.
10. The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, on Thursday promised Nigerians, that the fuel scarcity in some parts of the country will end in 48 hours. According to Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, Kachikwu made the promise during the meeting of the council presided over by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo. Obaseki quoted the Minister as saying that there is enough fuel in the nation’s strategic reserves.
