1. Chairman, Senate Committee on Public Petitions, Ethics and Privileges, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has stated that Nigeria Senate no longer regard Mr. Ibrahim Magu as the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
He explained that there were massive petitions against the EFCC, but they could not invite Mr. Magu because he was no longer seen as the acting Chairman.
2. Another member of the House of Representatives elected under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Johnson Agbonayinma from Edo State, has defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Agbonayinma was a member of the Ali Modu Sheriff faction before the Supreme Court recognised the then Senator Ahmed Makarfi faction as the authentic leadership of the party.
3. The Nigerian senior national team, has been ranked 51st in the world in the latest FIFA month grading.
The Super Eagles dropped to 9th in Africa in the ranking released by FIFA on Thursday, while Germany, Brazil and Portugal retained the top three places in the latest FIFA rankings.
4. Nigeria was among the 128 countries, which voted against the decision of President Donald Trump, to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
The voting took place at the UN General Assembly.
5. The Chief Executive Officer of Innoson Group of Companies, Chief Innocent Chukwuma has denied the allegation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, that he forged tax waiver documents.
The auto manufacturer also denied that he was ever invited by the EFCC, noting that throughout his ordeal with the agency, he was never told why he was arrested and humiliated.
6. Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, said yesterday that Bishop of Enugu, Anglican Diocese, Most Rev. Emmanuel Chukwuma, is a member of a political party.
Okorocha through a release to newsmen in Owerri, by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Sam Onwuemeodo, was apparently reacting to a statement credited to the ArchBishop, accusing Okorocha’s administration of wasteful spending of state resources.
7. Niger Delta militants have demanded the release of $1bilion by the Federal Government from the Excess Crude Account for the Niger Delta region to tackle development the same way it approved $1bn to fight insurgency in the North-East or they will begin massive destruction of oil pipelines and facilities.
Leader of the Reformed Niger Delta Avengers, RNDA, a coalition of nine militant groups, self-styled “Major General” Johnmark Ezonbi, aka Obama, in an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, said: “We demand our own share of the $1 billion from the Excess Crude Account for the development of the Niger Delta within four weeks.”
8. Dr. Ngozi Olojeme, former NSITF chair, was quizzed for hours yesterday over alleged diversion of fund.
Olojeme, who was declared wanted a few weeks ago by the EFCC on the order of a court, turned herself in.
9. The Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN), on Thursday said he was in the dark on why the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arrested the Chairman of Innoson Motors, Innocent Chukwuma.
Malami said this while answering questions from State House correspondents at the end of a meeting of the Federal Executive Council at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
10. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, yesterday said the ongoing fuel scarcity in the country should be blamed on oil marketers, saying they were hoarding the product.
NNPC Group Managing Director, Maikanti Baru, who disclosed this yesterday, said the corporation had increased supply of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, also known as petrol, across the country from about 30 million litres to 80 million litres per day.
