1. Ibrahim Gaidam, governor of Yobe state Thursday declared that none of the missing students of Government Girls Science Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe state has been rescued.

Gaidam told family members of the students to keep praying that the girls should be found.

2. Bola Tinubu, a national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has written the national chairman of the party, John Odigie-Oyegun, accusing him of sabotage.

Bola Tinubu accused Oyegun of sabotaging his Presidential assignment of reconciling aggrieved members.

3. Leaders of the Tiv nation on Thursday accused the army of allegedly providing cover for armed herdsmen to take over the land naturally given to them by God.

They also expressed displeasure over the operation of a military exercise code-named “Cat Race” launched in the state by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) to restore peace in Benue State communities following attacks by armed Fulani herdsmen.

4. The National Council of State on Thursday endorsed the appointments of 23 members of the National Population Commission (NPC) and a National Electoral Commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Council deliberated and endorsed the President’s appointments of the following vacant positions; the two non-legal practitioners to the Federal Judicial Service Commission, a National Electoral Commissioner for INEC and 23 members of the National Population Commission.

5. Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, on Thursday said the Boko Haram sect was targeting soft targets because the military had chased it out of Sambisa forest.

According to him, the terrorists were desperate and out to embarrass the Buhari government.

6. The Senate has hinted that the Nigerian government paid ransom to secure the release of some of the Chibok girls kidnapped in April 2014 by Boko Haram terrorists.

The Federal Government had confirmed that negotiations took place in the release of some of the 276 captured Chibok girls, but kept mum on the issue of possible payment of ransom.

7. President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday night failed to give a definitive answer to governors of the All Progressive Congress (APC) States, who had requested him to declare his intention for 2019 presidential election.

Buhari told the governors to give him time to decide on the matter when the governors met him at the First Lady’s Wing of the presidential villa, Abuja in a meeting which lasted for about an hour and a half.

8. Immediate past chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, have told the Senate it has no power to alter the order of election for 2019.

Jega said the National Assembly’s action undermined INEC’s independence of INEC and added that several sections of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), clearly state that the power to organise and set the date for elections remain the exclusive preserve of the commission.

9. The All Progressives Congress APC has issued a sharp rebuke of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, describing it as a party that survives only the oxygen of corruption.

APC in a statement by its spokesman, Bolaji Abdullahi Wednesday in Abuja said it was alerting Nigerians to many wild and unsubstantiated allegations against the it, the government and critical institutions such as the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC.

10. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has again called to question the competence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to credibly deliver on the 2019 general elections as an unbiased and impartial umpire.

Briefing members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party, PDP national chairman Uche Secondus said the alleged registration of minors by INEC in recent elections held in Kano and Katsina States has elicited doubt about the electoral umpire’s competence for the assignment before it.
