1. Eight bandits were on Thursday killed by troops of the One Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Gusau during a gun battle in Maru Local Government area of Zamfara.

The Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Major Clement Abiade told newsmen that the bandits were caught while the army was carrying out clearance operations in the state nicknamed “Operation Idon Raini.”

2. Dipo George, the son of former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Bode George, is died.

Dipo, who was born by the George’s first wife, Feyi, according to family sources, was 42 years before his death at a hospital in Ikoyi, Lagos in the early hours of Thursday, after a long battle with an undisclosed ailment.

3. Babafemi Ojudu, an adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on political matters, has withdrawn from the Ekiti state governorship race.

He announced his withdrawal during a press conference on Thursday in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

4. A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has nullified the suspension of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege from the Senate for 90 legislative days.

The presiding judge, Justice Nnamdi Dimgba delivering judgement on the suit, held that the suspension of the Senator during the pendency of the suit was unconstitutional and an affront on the judiciary.

5. A Nigerian diplomat was on Thursday found dead at his home in the Sudanese capital Khartoum, two security sources said.

It was gathered that Dubai-based al-Arabiya television identified the diplomat as the consul-general and described his death as an “assassination”.

6. Adams Oshiomhole, former Edo State Governor, has formally declared his intention to run for the office of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Speaking during his declaration in Abuja, on Thursday, the former governor said he was contesting for the office to make a difference and as well continue with the development made by the incumbent Chairman, John Oyegun.

7. The immediate past National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, has resigned from the party barely 48 hours after he was beaten to the PDP governorship ticket in Ekiti state by incumbent deputy governor, Prof Kolapo Olusola.

The former minister, who came second in the PDP governorship primaries on Tuesday with 771 votes, said he could not work with the governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, whom he alleged imposed his deputy as the party’s candidate in the July 14 governorship election.

8. The leadership of the political pressure group founded by former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, the Coalition for Nigerian Movement (CNM), has confirmed its fusion into the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

A Co-convener of CNM, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, who made the pronouncement at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, explained that with this development, CNM has ceased to exist, having formally collapsed into a political party.

9. The Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), said on Thursday he could not wait for the current Senate, which he described as the worst since 1999, to go next year.

He faulted the lawmakers’ insistence on the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris’s personal appearance before them.

10. The Independent Corruption Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), on Thursday, re-arraigned former Inspector-General of Police, Sunday Ehindero, and former Commissioner of Police, John Obaniyi, for alleged N16.4 million fraud.

The defendants are standing trial before an FCT High Court, Apo, on a five-count charge bordering on fraud and conspiracy.
