1. The Joint Health Sector Union, JOHESU, Thursday night relaxed its four-week old strike in Lagos, Kano and Yobe states to accommodate emergency services. The union said the decision to relax the strike in the three states was to show appreciation to the state governments for meeting the clamour and terms of settlement demanded by the unions.
2. The Federal Government on Thursday rubbished insinuations that the herdsmen/farmers crisis has religious colouration. Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed stated this during a Town Hall meeting organized by the Federal Government in Abuja. Buttressing his claim, the Minister cited instances in Zamfara and Kebbi States, where there had been similar crisis, noting that those involved in the crisis were all Muslims.
3. Justice Olasumbo Goodluck of FCT High Court, Maitama, on Thursday adjourned indefinitely the trial of the senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye. The lawmaker was dragged to court on two counts bordering on giving false information, offences he denied committing. But the court adjourned indefinitely on health grounds, saying that the prosecution did not doubt the health problem of the senator.
4. An Umuahia Chief Magistrates’ Court presided by Chief Magistrate John Ukpai, on Thursday, remanded Inspector Nwitoka Nwinee, Sergeants Emeto Godwin and Chigozie Onina in prison custody for unlawfully killing Joseph Oduluso, Odichi Sampson and Obinna Innocent at Ntigha Okpuala in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of Abia State. The suspects (Policemen) on 5th of March, 2018 allegedly murdered the deceased persons at Ntigha Okpuala.
5. Different opinions have emerged over a trending video of the IG of Police, Ibrahim Idris, where he was caught on camera struggling to read a prepared speech. The video dominated by transmission and commission has generated comments from groups and individuals. While some are of the opinion that the IG suffered brain block at the Kano event, others said it was a spiritual attack.
6. Non-teaching staff of Nigerian universities, under the umbrella of SSANU, NASU and NAAT, on Thursday warned that they may be resuming their strike eight weeks after the industrial action was suspended. The workers who were angry over the failure of government to implement the agreement it reached with them during the strike, pleaded with Nigerians to prevail on the federal government to implement the agreement so as to avert the resumption of the suspended strike.
7. Kwara State Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed has described as false and misleading, insinuations linking him and the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki with the suspected cultists arrested in Ilorin, the state capital and transferred by the Nigeria Police to Abuja. Governor Ahmed, in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Dr. Muyideen Akorede, said neither him nor the Senate President nor any of their aides have links with the suspects.
8. No fewer than four persons were Thursday killed in Maiduguri, Borno State after a suicide bomber hit an open-air mosque for refugees in the State. Report says suspected Boko Haram bomber, who disguised as a worshipper detonated his explosives at a camp for people displaced by the insurgency in Dikwa, a town 90 kilometres (55 miles) east of Maiduguri.
9. There was confusion along Ada George Road in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital, on Thursday morning, as soldiers took over the Rumukpakani Police station, reportedly in response to the killing of their colleague by a policeman. The report claims a group of angry soldiers stormed the police station and arrested the Divisional Police Officer, DPO. The murdered soldier reported to be on mufti, was allegedly shot near the police station by one of the policemen on duty.
10. No fewer than three persons have been killed and several persons displaced after suspected herdsmen attacked another community in Benue State. The attack came barely 24 hours after Vice President Yemi Osinbajo left the state. Report says the latest attack occurred on Thursday in Ukemberagya community, Gaambe-Tiev Logo LGA of the State.
