1. A former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, has formerly joined the Young Progressive Party, YPP to run for the office of the President. He said the party answered his questions on affirmative. Moghalu made his official declaration on Thursday in Abuja. He described YPP as a notice of evacuation to Nigeria’s recycled political party.
2. The Federal Government has outlined a four-day activities to mark the 2018 Democracy Day, from May 25 to May 29. Mr Lawrence Ojabo, Director Press, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) made the announcement in a statement on Thursday in Abuja. He said that the celebration would begin with the Friday (Juma’at) Prayers at the National Mosque, Central Business District, Abuja, on May 25. With the team: “Peace Building and Good Governance for Sustainable Development.”
3. The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday appointed the Governor of Kebbi State, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu to head the Party’s 77-member National Campaign Council to ensure victory for the Party’s governorship candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi at the July 14 Ekiti Governorship Election.
4. Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Ms. Winifred Oyo-Ita, has said that the constitution of the Presidential Committee on Minimum Wage will bring a lasting solution to the prayers of “poor civil servants.” She described the 80,000 civil servants that make up the 1.2 million public servants in the country, as the “backbone of government” and most patriotic set of Nigerians, as they don’t protest or go on strike.
5. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that the outburst by the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government that it would have dragged the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike to court, but for his constitutional immunity, confirms the fears that government wants to silence the opposition. This is contained in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan.
6. A repentant commercial sex worker in Lokoja, Kogi State, Miss Halimat Abdullahi has accused the Felele Area Court Judge, Lokoja, Kogi State, Justice Sani Momoh of trampling on her right to fair hearing. Report has it that the ex-commercial sex worker was detained under the instruction of one Engineer Dada, owner of the hotel where she once lodged before she quit her business. It was learnt that the ex-sex worker was not arraigned in court but detained on the order of Engineer Dada because of his personal relationship with the area Court judge.
7. The Senate on Thursday, urged the Federal Government to intensify effort to secure the release of Leah Sharibu, the only Dapchi schoolgirl yet to be released from abduction. The upper chamber also urged the government to ensure that the remaining Chibok schoolgirls, among those abducted in April, 2014 and still in Boko Haram custody, were released. The resolutions of the lawmakers were sequel to a motion on “2018 Children’s Day Celebration” by Chairman, Senate Committee on Women Affairs, Sen. Binta Garba, at plenary.
8. The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ekiti State has written a petition to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, and Director General, Department of State Services, over what it called the wanton destruction of the campaign billboard of its governorship candidate, Dr Kayode Fayemi, in Oye Ekiti, allegedly on the orders of Governor Ayodele Fayose.
9. Some armed policemen, Thursday, reportedly stormed Arogbo community in Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State. The community is said to be the hometown of a former Special Adviser to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan on Niger Delta Affairs, Mr. Kingsley Kuku, whose house was said to have been thoroughly searched by the armed policemen. Report says the armed policemen claimed they were searching for kidnappers.
10. The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has accused the state governor, Nyesom Wike of setting aside N500 million of the state’s fund to sponsor a very devious smear campaign against the F-SARS commander for the purpose of ensuring that he is removed. According to the party, the governor allegedly embarked on the new measure after his failed attempts in the past through the #endSARS campaign to blackmail the Commander of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (F-SARS) Akin Fakorede, an assistant commissioner of Police.
