1. The Joint Health Sector Union, JOHESU, on Thursday called off its 43-day-old strike. It directed its members to resume work on Friday. The body also slammed the Federal Government for failing to meet its demands. The directive was contained in a communique issued at the end of the National Executive Council meeting of JOHESU and Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations in Abuja.
2. President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki has said that the Senate may amend existing security laws to effectively tackle security challenges facing the country. Saraki made this known on Thursday after about three hours of executive session with the National Security Adviser, Maj.-Gen. Mohammed Monguno (rtd). The Senate President said that Monguno had been asked to submit a funding request that would aid security agencies in their operations to the National Assembly for approval.
3. Report says a policeman guarding a hotel in the Ijegun, Ikotun area of Lagos State Thursday shot dead a 28-year-old graduate of the Nnamdi Azikwe University, Jude Okoronta. Report says the policeman guarding the Ileviaoje Hotel killed the graduate around 11 pm on Wednesday. The victim was waiting for a commercial motorcycle to take him home in front of the hotel when he was gunned down.
4. Deputy Governor in charge of Operations at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Adebayo Adelabu has resigned in order to pursue his political ambition. Report says Adelabu left to seek election as the Governor of Oyo state.
5. The Northern Youths Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has bemoaned the rate of lopsidedness in political appointments and the secret recruitment of children of elites into lucrative agencies of government. President of NYCN, Comrade Isa Abubakar who made the remarks at a media briefing in Abuja, said that the children of the poor and masses are not favoured in employment into public service.
6. The Presidency has reacted to the sentencing of Ex-Governor Jolly Nyame to 14 years imprisonment. Buhari’s Personal Assistant on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, said Nyame’s sentencing has shown that APC is not a place for criminals. She commended Justice Adebukola Banjoko, for withstanding all forms of pressure and inducements from corrupt lawyers and godfathers, adding that It’s a victory for all law abiding citizens of this nation.
7. The Deputy National Chairman (North) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen. Lawali Shuaibu has said that the alleged demand to stop the trial of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) did not come up during Monday’s meeting between Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and former new Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP) in the APC. Shuaib told newsmen at the APC National Secretariat that reports suggesting that the matter was raised were false.
8. President Muhammadu Buhari, Thursday signed the ‘Not Too Young To Run’ bill into law. Buhari signed the bill inside the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, saying that youths have now established a formidable legacy that they can achieve anything they are determined to do.
9. Troops of 271 Tasks Force Battalion deployed in Operation Lafiya Dole were on Thursday ambushed by Boko Haram. The incident occurred along Pridang – Bitta in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State. Brigadier General Texas Chukwu, Director Army Public Relations, in a statement said during the fight, troops ran into Improvised Explosive Device (IED) buried on the road by the sect, killing five of them.
10. The mother of a new born baby who got missing shortly after delivery at Peniel Maternity and Clinic, popularly known as (Mummy’s hospital) in Anyigba, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, Mrs Laruba Drisu, has accused the nurse on duty (when the child was born), Rebecca Amina Sanni, of masterminding the sudden disappearance of her baby. She said everything that happened, as well as the body language of the nurse showed she arranged with the woman on hijab who allegedly stole the baby.
