1. The National headquarters of the Department of State services, DSS, Abuja, on Thursday, said it has arrested Bashiru Adams and Rufai Sajo, both suspected to be commanders of the budding Islamic State in West Africa (ISWA). An official of DSS, Tony Opuiyo, made this known in a statement released to select newsmen in Abuja. Opuiyo revealed that the major suspects were nabbed on May 5 this year at Kukuntu village, Gwagwalada area council, FCT, Abuja.
2. The aggrieved members of the New Peoples Democratic Party, nPDP in the All Progressives, APC, have declared they will be attending the national convention of the ruling party scheduled for Saturday. The leader of the group, Alhaji Abubakar Baraje disclosed this Thursday in a statement from his media office in Ilorin, Kwara state.
3. Major highways leading to Kaduna High Court along Independence Way in Kaduna metropolis were on Thursday shut down over the arraignment of the embattled leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria also known as Shi’ite, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky. Journalists who trooped to the court premises to cover the case were also barred from entering by heavily armed security men stationed at all strategic points leading to the court. Trial, however, did not hold as the judge was absent.
4. The Bayelsa chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has refuted claims that it has endorsed former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2019 elections. Chairman of the state chapter of the PDP, Moses Cleopas, said Abubakar’s visit to the state was not for endorsement of his aspiration as the party’s presidential candidate.
5. Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday begged Ekiti traditional rulers for not visiting them before he attended the All Progressives Congress (APC) rally for governorship candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi. Osinbajo who left for Abuja after the campaign gathering on Tuesday, went back to Ekiti on Wednesday. This time, the major agenda was to pay homage to the monarchs.
6. President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday said Boko Haram was no longer holding any part of Nigeria. He stated this in his speech at the opening ceremony at the 67th International Press Institute (IPI) World Congress in Abuja.
7. Tribal leaders in Benue under the aegis of Mdzough U Tiv (MUT), Idoma National Forum and Omi Ny’igede have kicked against the plan by the federal government of Nigeria to establish cattle ranching in the state. The ethnic groups said the plan was a ploy to give out Benue land to the killer herdsmen. The groups said this in a statement signed by Chief Edward Ujeg, President-General Mdzough U Tiv, Barr. Amali Odoya Amali, President, Idoma National Forum and Comrd. Ben Okpa, President General, Omi Nyi’Igede.
8. The lawyer to Miss Osagie, the student who accused Professor Richard Akindele of sexual harassment has lauded the decision of the management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) on the case. The lawyer while reacting to the decision of the school described it as a well-deserved action and victory not for Monica alone but for all students in Nigerian schools.
9. Report says a doctor in the Lekki area of Lagos State, Dr Emmanuel Okolo, has been accused of flogging a nurse, Dorcas Adeyera and asking her to kneel down. This happened at the Awoyaya Hospital and Maternity Centre , Ibeju Lekki.
10. Over 1,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have dumped the party for the All Progressives Congress, APC, in federal ward 9/DSIEC Ward 14, in Ovwori axis of Sapele Local Government Area, Delta State. The decampees burnt their membership cards as they decamped to APC in the state.
