Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Friday morning

1. Abu Ibrahim, senator representing Katsina south, has vowed that there will be no peace in the upper legislative chamber until the Senate President Bukola Saraki resigns.

Ibrahim told newsmen on Thursday that going by conventions around the world, it is the majority party that produces the leadership in parliament, saying that by leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC), the senate president has chosen a path of “political survival”.

2. Mariam Uwais, special adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on social protection has claimed that the federal government has spent N49 billion on the national home-grown school feeding programme.

Uwais said 8, 596,340 pupils were currently being fed in 46,247 public primary schools in 24 states, including Abia, Adamawa, Akwa-Ibom, Anambra, Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Enugu, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Niger, Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Sokoto, Taraba, and Zamfara.

3. The Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has imposed an indefinite suspension on Shehu Sani, senator representing Kaduna central.

The party vowed not to lift the suspension until Sani tenders an apology to Nasir el-Rufai, the governor, and President Muhammadu Buhari.

4. President Muhammadu Buhari says God will continue to “fish out the bad eggs” in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Buhari, who spoke in Bauchi on Thursday, said the APC-led government had remained faithful in implementing its campaign promise of improving the economy, securing the country, and the fight against corruption.

5. The Presidency has denied allegation by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that President Muhammadu Buhari’s planned 10-days leave to London was a plot to impeach the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

The presidency in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu in Abuja, said Buhari is a democrat that does not indulge in any unconstitutional and illegal act.

6. The second in command to Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, Momodu Bama has been killed in an encounter with security troops, the Defence Headquarters announced in Abuja on Wednesday.

Others that died in the operation include Bama’s father, Abatcha Flatari, who is also one of the spiritual guiding lights of the outlawed terrorist group.

7. The 81st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held on Thursday, at the party’s national secretariat in Wadata Plaza, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.

Some of those in attendance, include the Governors who recently joined from the All Progressives Congress (APC) such Governor Samuel Ortom (Benue) and Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto). Others are Governor Ben Ayade (Cross River), Governor Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom), etc. Senator Dino Melaye, Senator Barnabas Gemade and Senator Kwankwaso, were joined by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

8. The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has taken a key step in ending the ongoing tussle over its leadership, by lifting the bans handed to self-acclaimed President of the Federation, Chris Giwa and a few others.

Arising from their meeting and shortly before the 2018 Extra-ordinary General Assembly held in Benin City on Thursday, the Executive Committee reeled out these developments, subject to ratification by the Assembly.

9. All Local Government chairmen and councillors in Kwara State have defected from the All Progressives Congress, (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP).

Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, Kwara State chapter, Mr. Joshua Omokanye said,”All the 16 LG chairmen and all the councillors elected under APC have defected to the PDP.”

10. The Senator representing Kaduna Central in the National Assembly, Shehu Sani, has insisted that he remains a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Sani made it clear that he joined the party voluntarily and will leave out of his volition.
