1. The Nigerian Senate on Thursday rejected a commissioner-nominee, Dr. Abdul Malik Mohammed Durnnguwa for the National Population Commission (NPC).
The Senate explained that Durnnguwa’s West African Examination Council (WAEC) certificate was questionable. He was the only one out of the 23 nominees of President Muhammadu Buhari who was not cleared.
2. Members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, on Thursday, impeached the Speaker, Honourable Kola Oluwawole and his Deputy Sina Animaun.
Oluwawole and Animaun were impeached on the floor of the House by 14 members on Thursday, who consequently appointed Hon Ebenezer Alagbada, representing Ise/Orun constituency as the new Speaker.
3. Outspoken clerics, Bishod David Oyedepo, Bishop Mattew Kukah and Sheikh Ahmed Gumi, on Thursday reconciled former president, Olusegun Obasanjo and his erstwhile deputy, Atiku Abubakar, in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital,
During the meeting, Obasanjo said he had forgiven Atiku but he needed to clear his image in the international community.
4. Some Irate youths on a Thursday razed down four houses in Langtang South Local Government while protesting election results.
The incident happened after the youths became angry over the outcome of the Wednesday local government elections in Plateau State.
5. The Board Chairman of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Mr Usman Sandamu is dead. He was 68.
Malam Lawal Ado, a cousin to the deceased who confirmed the news of his death, said Sandamu died late Thursday evening in a Turkish hospital in Abuja.
6. President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to Olusegun Obasanjo’s endorsement of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar.
Buhari in a statement by his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, on Thursday described the meeting as a ‘well rehearsed theatre’, adding that both leaders will fail in 2019.
7. A former Governor of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim has formed a new party.
The former Governor on Thursday led 13 other governorship aspirants in protest in Owerri, over what they described as the imposition of Senator Ifeanyi Araraume as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in the state.
8. The Nigerian Air Force says its Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation Lafiya Dole has destroyed a Boko Haram Terrorist (BHT) Training Camp in Malkonory, and also destroyed a BHT vehicle near Tumbun Rego in Northern Borno.
Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
9. The Independent National Electoral Commission on Thursday said that more than 80 million registered voters are expected to vote during the 2019 general elections.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said that the figure was made up of 67 million existing registered voters and 14 million newly registered voters.
10. Festus Keyamo, spokesman of the re-election campaign of President Muhammadu Buhari, has asked Nigerians not to join ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo in receiving the curse he allegedly invoked on himself, over former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.
Keyamo wondered why Atiku chose to beg Obasanjo, rather than present evidence that he is not guilty of the allegations levelled against him.
